Chamber Supports The Children's Hospital Bond Act of 2018

The California Children’s Hospital Association is sponsoring a statewide initiative for the November 2018 ballot. It is the Children’s Hospital Bond Act of 2018.
This will be the 3rd time (previously in 2004 & 2008) that the voters will be asked to pass a bond to be used for capital and technology projects to increase access to care and capacity for caring for children... especially those with complex health diagnoses.

This bond will allow Children's Hospitals to expand, upgrade and improve their facilities and reach... meaning more kids will have access to specialized, life-saving care they need.

The bond also helps Children's Hospitals acquire the latest technology and life-saving medical equipment, giving doctors the tools to save more children’s lives.

Children’s Hospitals have a track record of spending bond money wisely. Funds from previous bond measures have been invested to ensure seismic safety, add inpatient beds, and acquire new technology. However, the growing demand for care means additional funds are needed to continue ensuring high-quality care of our states sickest kids.

New Fire Sprinkler Tax Initiatives for Small Businesses

Recent federal tax reform legislation — the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act — includes incentives that make it more affordable for small business owners to install fire sprinklers. Fire sprinkler systems are the only tool that can reduce the spread of fire, heat and smoke in a building and contain the fire until the fire department arrives. This provides valuable time for employees and customers to escape a fire.

Small businesses can now deduct the expense of installing a fire sprinkler system on their federal taxes... read more

The festival is immense and it takes hundreds of man-hours to set it up. The crew works all night long. Then all the artists arrive and set up their booths. Then another couple hundred volunteers show up to pour beer and wine. That’s where you and your friends come in.

They need fun, enthusiastic volunteers, who are at least 14 years old. In order to pour alcohol, volunteers need to be 21 years old. High school kids can work in the ticket and glass booths.... Read more
