With the increase in 2018 of the amount that the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) allows a person to gift free from gift tax reporting, from $14,000 per person to $15,000 per person, per tax year, there is greater opportunity for tax-free gifting. However, a person who applies for Medicaid to pay for supportive living or nursing home care is subject to the "five-year lookback".

Erin Vogt
, who is a licensed clinical social worker and a certified care manager, serves as our Client Care Coordinator. She talks with all individuals who contact our firm for assistance and, after the client meets with the attorney, can meet with the client at any location - literally: a private home, acute care, long-term care, or rehabilitation hospitals; an assisted or independent living community; or a skilled nursing/rehabilitation facility. In addition, she is accessible to clients and their loved ones when questions or new issues arise.
Our attorneys rely on Erin's input regarding how our client is handling his or her personal range of health conditions; living situations, and countless other issues. She takes time to assess what level of services would be helpful, whom the client and loved ones can rely on for various kinds of support, and whether the current plan is sustainable. When it is not, she helps to make modifications. The values of our clients are the priority.
As the attorneys develop comprehensive legal and financial plans, Erin focuses on building a client-centered care plan that starts with the needs, goals, values, and wishes of the client within the limits of available resources.
