New Security Self-Storage Now Open at 9526 Westheimer

Love it or hate it, the self-storage boom in the U.S. continues - one in 11 Americans pays to store excess stuff. For those living in and around Westchase District, a shiny new option recently opened:  Security Self-Storage, located at 9526 Westheimer (at the northeast corner of Tanglewilde and Westheimer).

The three-story location has both drive-up and climate-controlled spaces available starting at $39 per month for a 5' x 5' unit. The facility features computerized entry systems, LED security lighting and video surveillance.  Renters receive free use of a moving truck with any new rental and they also may purchase packing supplies.

Office hours are Monday - Friday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 to 5 p.m. General Manager Krislyn Aragon said an open-house event will take place in August, so stay tuned for more information. Meanwhile, you can call them for more details at 713-266-9199.

Block Party at Robinson-Westchase Library July 26

With Houston temperatures hovering around 100 degrees, we all need an escape - both to places with air conditioning and in our minds. Coming to the rescue on both counts is the staff of the newly-renovated Robinson-Westchase Neighborhood Library at 3223 Wilcrest Drive. They will host a free community block party this Thursday, July 26, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.

A muralist will conduct a live chalk art demonstration and afterward, children can make their own chalk art creation to take home. The party also will include H-E-B's grocery bag mascot H-E-Buddy, face painting, games, snacks and prizes. If you don't have one already, you can sign up for a Houston Public Library card and check out books, movies, music and more. The event is free, open to the public and, yes, air-conditioned. For more details, contact Caitlin Campbell, 832-393-2011.
