Health Department Releases 2017 Opioid Stats
During the first three quarters of 2017, more than 2.5 million opioid prescriptions were dispensed in Mississippi. On average, more than half a million dosage units were dispensed every day since the beginning of the year. Read more....

Bryan Batson, MD  works at the Hattiesburg Clinic and was named the Director of the Hypertension Center in 2005. In 2009, he also received one of 10 research grants from the American Medical Group Association to investigate in the Best Practices in Managing Hypertension in the United States. Recently, he was lead author of an article in the "Journal of Ethnicity and Disease" which presented the results of a 4-year research project studying practice trends in treating African-Americans with hypertension. Last fall, Dr. Rahul Gupta, the man in charge of combating one of the worst health crises in America, decided to do something no one had ever tried. He ordered his staff to do an in-depth analysis of every person in his state who had died of a drug overdose over the preceding year--all 887 of them.
