Dear T-Bird Parents & Families,
We look forward to having your family on campus Thursday, August 22 for
Move-in Day
. Because we would like you to get comfortable with your student's new home-away-from-home,
Thunder U Check-In
for students and all
family events
will take place in the Sharwan Smith Student Center. All campus parking lots will be free and open to everyone on Move-in Day.
We will host
Parent Orientation
sessions at 10 AM, 11 AM, 1 PM or 2 PM in the Church Auditorium in the Student Center, and a session for families who speak
Spanish at 1 PM
in the Brianhead room in the Student Center. (We will also host an early-bird session on Friday, August 16 at 3 PM in the Church Auditorium for families who are in the area early.) Because we want your first priority to be helping your student get settled in, you can choose any session that works best for you, no RSVP necessary.
We will also have a
Parent Check-in Station
available in the Starlight Room of the Student Center from 9 AM - 3 PM on Thursday. Please stop by with any questions, to pick up some Parent and Family swag, and to leave a postcard love note for your student (we deliver these the 3rd week of school, when student motivation starts to dip a little). It is also a great place to make friends with other parents and learn more about Parent and Family Services.
A
Campus and Community Resource Fair
will take place in the Student Center from 10 AM- 2 PM to help your student connect with community and campus resources to help them be successful while they are away from home.
We encourage families to say their
last goodbyes
and give their last hugs Thursday night before bed, because students check in for two action-packed days of
Thunder U Orientation
at 9 am on Friday, August 23. Families who are still in the area on Friday may be able to get a picture of their student and high five them on Friday at New Student Induction at 11 AM in the America First Event Center, or during the
Carter Carillon Bell Tower Tradition
at Noon. If families would like to attend, we will have seating available in Section K of the America First Event Center for New Student Induction. For the Bell Tower Tradition, families can line the sidewalk outside the Business building and the Geosciences building, the student body will greet your student in front of the bell tower, and faculty and staff will welcome them after exiting the bell tower. A live feed will also be available of both events on our
SUU Facebook page
so families can watch from home.
I will attend Thunder U with your student, and will post pictures and updates on our Parent and Family Services
Instagram
and
Facebook
accounts throughout the weekend if you would like to follow along.
We look forward to seeing you soon!
