Dear School of St. Mary Families,

We've made it through three-fourths of the school year as of today!  To recognize this momentous occasion, we celebrate Spring Break next week. With many of our families traveling, I hope you will participate in our 2019 Crusader Spring Break Challenge. To participate, post a photo wherever you are next week, whether it be here in Illinois, off on a beach somewhere or some other exciting locale. Use the hashtags #CrusaderSB19 or #lovestmarys to post your pictures on either Facebook, Instagram or Twitter. Thanks to some generous School of St. Mary families, $15.00 will be donated to the School of St. Mary Annual Fund for every picture posted! On top of the money being donated to the Annual Fund, the grade with the most picture posts will receive a casual dress day! We can't wait to see how far our Crusader Pride will carry us. Talk about March Madness!

During the past week, our students went on some exciting field trips to compliment and enhance their classroom learning. Our students saw a play, visited a museum and traveled to the Seminary.

On Wednesday, our Fifth graders went to Chicago to explore the Field Museum. Our students have been learnin g about Ancient Egyptians in both Art and Social Studies. At the museum, they were able to experience for themselves various aspects of Ancient Egyptian culture through a combination of artifacts, recreations, and interactive activities that are on display. Thank you to our Fifth-grade teachers Katie Darraugh and Nicole Graham for planning such a fun and educational trip for our students.

Our First grade students went to Lincolnshire to see a production of the musical Seussical this past Thursday. Our students had a wonderful opportunity to experience the stories of Dr. Seuss put to music. Rhyming, character setting, and plot came to life were just some of the things they got to experience firsthand. Seussical gave our students the ability to engage with various Dr. Seuss stories, while showcasing the fun of reading. Thank you to our First-grade teachers Kristy Bernardi and Maggie Twardak for planning such a marvelous outing for our students.

The St. Mary of the Lake Seminary in Mundelein was the destination for our Eighth graders on Thursday. While there, our students went on a tour of the grounds, learning about the history of the largest seminary in the United States. Our students took advantage of the tour and visited the libraries, Chapel, Grotto, and lake. The trip allowed our students to have a better understanding of the vocation of priesthood, along with the sacrifices and preparation one needs to make in order to become a Catholic priest or sister. Thank you to our Religion teacher, Mary Catherine Nelson, for planning this reflective and informative outing.

Congratulations to School of St. Mary Fourth graders Fitz Knight and George Vojcanin.  Both boys were recently awarded the Arlie Weiss Sportsmanship Award for the 2018 New Vision Athletics (NVA) season. George earned his award for basketball while Fitz was recognized for baseball. Great job boys! What a great way to represent Crusader Pride in our community.

I want to extend a huge thank you to all of our families who have supported the School of St. Mary Annual Fund so far this school year. We are hoping to reach 100% family participation by the time our students leave in June. One great way to support the Annual Fund is by seeing if your employer offers a matching contribution. If your employer does, any donation you make the School of St. Mary Annual Fund will be matched by your company just by signing up for it. This is a great way to benefit our school and really make a difference with your contribution. We have compiled a list of employers who at one time provided a matching donation. The list can be accessed here .

Finally, with all of the many activities taking place here at the School of St. Mary, a well-earned Spring Break will take place from March 25-29. School resumes on April 1. Blessings to all of our families for your time over the Spring Break: May it be a time of rest, renewal, and safety. We hope everyone returns ready for the fun, education and adventure that is the remainder of the school year.  We'll be here to greet you and hear about your amazing adventures. Safe travels!

Parent's Association Annual Fund Update
Dear School of St. Mary Families,

We hope the current school year has been full of learning and fun experiences for both you and your families. It is hard to believe the year is over halfway done and we are already at Spring Break!

We at the Parents' Association wanted to provide you with an update on the 2018-2019 Annual Fund Fundraising campaign. While the year started off well with high corporate sponsorship contributions and our strongest Giving Tuesday campaign ever, we are still unfortunately very far from our necessary fundraising goal of $330,000, with $144,098.38 raised year-to-date.

As many of you know, the Annual Fund goes to directly support the operations of the school, financial aid for our students and bonuses to support the amazing teachers that work so hard to shape our children day in and day out.

We are writing to ask for your help.

Every dollar counts and we are hoping to garner participation from 100% of our school families. Every donation that goes towards the Annual Fund directly impacts our students and teachers. There are opportunities coming up to help us reach that goal, but we will need the help of ALL of our School of St. Mary community and friends.

There are many different ways to donate to the Annual Fund. One of the ways we hope you will consider is matching gifts. Many corporations sponsor matching gift programs that multiply the impact of
personal contributions made by employees, retirees, and/or spouses. Depending on your employer's
policy, these corporate contributions can match your gifts dollar for dollar, and even double or triple the
value of your initial gift.

Matching gifts will be directed to the same area of support as your personal gift, unless company
policies dictate otherwise. You will be recognized for the total amount contributed, which would include
both your gift and any match. If you have questions or would like assistance with this process, please
contact the Development Office at (847)582-2554. Click  HERE for a partial list of Illinois companies with Matching Gift Administrators.

We know that in the School of St. Mary community anything is possible if we work together. There will also be more fun events in the future so please keep your eyes peeled for announcements for the rest of this school year. Finally, we invite you to join us at our next Parents' Association Meeting Wednesday, May 8th where we will outline the events for next school year and begin planning all the fun fundraising events for the future. If you have any questions about donating to the Annual Fund please reach out to Marketing and Development Director, Julia Donohoe at jdonohoe@churchofstmary.org.

We look forward to reaching this goal together and thank you for your continued support of our great school!

Sincerely,

Julia Donohoe, Development Director
