Piñatas to tacos, our Latino friends have given us some of our favorite things. Learn more about the Latino culture while exploring music, arts and crafts, and foods as we prepare and experience a fabulous 4-H fiesta!  
Conservators Center
When:     Tuesday, June 12th

Ever looked a tiger in the eye? You may have an opportunity to hear lions call to one another, howl with wolves, and meet a binturong for the first time. This is a trip you will never forget! Travel with us to Burlington to see some exciting animals up close. You must have a signed waiver to join us on this trip. Waiver can be found at the Extension Office, on the Facebook page and/or the Extension website.
White Water Rafting
When:     Wednesday, June 13th

Come with us as we make our way to Charlotte, NC for a day of outdoor adventure. You will have unlimited access to: Whitewater Rafting, Canyon Crossing, Climbing, Mega-Zip, Mega-Jump, Mountain Biking, Adventure Course, Climb-2-Zip, Flatwater Kayaking, Whitewater Kayaking, Stand-Up Paddle Boarding, and Eco Trekking. This will be the most thrilling trip of the summer so don't miss out!! Snacks will be provided but you will need to bring money for lunch. We will meet at the Extension office. You must have a signed waiver if you plan to Whitewater Raft, which can be found on the Facebook page and Extension website.
Safari Zoo Snooze
When:     Thursday, June 14th @ 3:30 pm

Where:     NC Zoological Park
Cost:        $40.00+ spending money for lunch and souvenirs

Come with us as we safari through Africa and North America exhibits on an overnight adventure to see creatures and plants from different areas of the world. Participants will get to hand feed giraffes from the giraffe deck and partake in the "Birds in Flight" exhibit where we'll see majestic macaws, sun conjures, hawks, owls, falcons, and owls demonstrate natural behaviors and perform aerial acrobatics! The fun will resume the next morning as we explore the zoo on our own. The zoo takes about four hours to walk through and view all the exhibits. Please wear comfortable shoes! Pack lunch, water bottle and wear tennis shoes. Send extra money for gift shops, snacks/beverage stations. Further instructions will be distributed upon registration. Preference given to first time  participants .
Teacups & Ties

Have you ever been to a fancy dinner and didn't know which fork was which? Join in on a group etiquette class with Alleghany and Wilkes county. Participants will take part in an entertaining and interactive session to learn the value of proper behavior, self-respect and consideration towards others. We'll be learning proper table manners including posture, silverware placements, dining do's and don'ts, kind words and phrases, and how to interact with servers. We will end the day with a tea party where female participants will get to make their own Kentucky Derby hat and male participants will get to dress up as waiters. Pack a lunch.
Wet'n Wild

Join us for a wet n' wild day of fun in the sun! We will begin with a short workshop on water and sun safety, and then spend the rest of the day enjoying the water park. Whether you prefer to go down the highest slides or relax in the lazy river, the park has something for everyone! Registration includes lunch: hamburgers, hotdogs, chips, ice cream and a drink. Please make sure to bring a change of clothes, bathing suit, towel, and sunscreen. Participants MUST be able to swim. There are gift shops and beverage/snack stations if you'd like to send extra money for your child.

Ultimate Food Challenge

Three days full of fun and best of all FOOD!!! Have fun learning where today's food comes from as we visit a real produce farm and talk to the farmer who grows the food.  Learn how to find the nutritional value of food and what that means. And don't tell mom, we'll be playing weird and crazy games involving food! End day three with your team using the information learned as you compete to create the most flavorful recipe ever.
Greensboro Science Center

Wow! A zoo, aquarium, and museum all in one place! Come explore the wonderful attractions at the Greensboro Science Center. We will tour all aspects of the center during our visit. We will leave from the Extension Office at 8:30 am and will return around 5 pm. A snack will be provided but bring a bag lunch & drink or $ for lunch. Please wear comfortable, closed-toe shoes.
Cloverbud Day

Join in as we get  creative and even  a little messy during
this hands-on class! Participants will have opportunities to create several projects during this fun filled day of crafts, stories, and more! Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes and bring a bag lunch and drink.
Preserve It & Serve It

Can't take the heat? Get out of the kitchen! We'll be using local produce from the Farmer's Market to learn how to can and preserve food. It is no surprise that with a rapidly increasing population it is important that we learn the challenges in our food system and empower our youth to control their personal food supply. What better way to do this than to learn to preserve? In this hands-on workshop, we will focus on different methods including canning, freezing, and pickling. Pack a lunch.
Art Adventures

Join us for a fun painting workshop where each participant will get to release their creativity through painting. Everyone will take home their own 12x12 canvas to display their art piece.
Sock It To Me

When you put on your socks in the morning, do you ever wonder where they came from or how they were made? Well know you can find out! Travel with us to Mt. Airy to visit Nester Hosiery-the world's most technologically advanced sock producer. We will get to see how the socks are knitted, finished and packaged. Each participant will go home with their own pair of Farm to Feet socks! Please bring a bag lunch, water bottle and wear close toed shoes.
Baking With Friends

Join your friends at 4-H in the kitchen as we discover the many benefits of baking.  Participants will learn to follow a recipe, measure, mix and then sample their delicious homemade baked goods.  What better way to learn some valuable life skills while practicing our reading, science and math.  Participants will receive recipes that they can take home to bake with their families too.   Pack a lunch.
Sew Much Fun
When:     Thursday, August 2nd

Get ready to express your creativity during this basic sewing workshop. Participants will enjoy a full day of learning basic sewing skills, designing some awesome creations they will get to take home, and having "sew much fun" with friends while learning! Pack a lunch.
Summer Explosion Night

               per person for family and friends.
 
Summer is a wonderful time to spend with families, friends, and 4-H. Families and summer participants are invited to join as we celebrate all the accomplishments of those that attended Summer Explosion. Our celebration will be held at Homeplace Recreational Park located in the Ararat community and swimming will be available after the meal and program. Directions available upon registration.
There will be a meal provided, pre-registration is required.
