We are seeking your feedback on our first annual camp out. Even if you did not attend, we need your input to make this an even better event next year! Click

Here is a message from Mr. Winkler, principal of Sloan Creek Intermediate School, for our 4th graders:
Just a reminder that Sloan Creek Intermediate School will be offering their final 4th grade parent coffee of the year on Friday, May 11th, from 9:00-10:30 am in the Sloan Creek Cafeteria.
You will learn what to expect as your child enters the 5th grade from Mr. Winkler and a panel of SCIS students. A group of 5th grade students will answer your questions and give you insights as to what to expect next year.
SCIS will also post this session on their

For those of you who attended our previous 4th grade parent information meetings held on February 1st and February 2nd, 2018 this is the exact same information.

Looks like it is a going to be a beautiful weekend!

On
Thursday, May 10th
, the 1st graders will be performing,
Stories and Rhymes,
in the Hart Elementary School cafeteria at 6:30pm
. Your 1
st
grader has been practicing instruments and a collection of songs for this special event, and we hope you will enjoy our special production. Here are some things we want you to know:
- Students need to meet in their HOMEROOM classroom at 6:15pm. Please be on time, so we have a chance to take attendance.
- The show will last about 25 minutes.
- After the concert, please remain seated until students exit the stage and cafeteria. They will go to their HOMEROOM classroom for parent pickup. This will help with crowd control in the cafeteria and will ensure that our students get home safely and quickly.
- Students will need to wear their grade level t-shirt with jeans, khakis, black pants OR jean/khaki/black skirt. If your child does not have a grade-level t-shirt, your child may wear a light blue shirt.
If you have any questions or concerns about the concert, please call or e-mail Mrs. Czechowski. We encourage our students to make school events a priority; however, we realize that conflicts may occur. If you know that your child cannot attend the concert, PLEASE let Mrs. Czechowksi know as soon as possible. This will help plan for and/or make adjustments to speaking/instrument parts as well as staging for the show. We appreciate your cooperation and support, and we look forward to seeing you on May 10th!

Counselor's Corner
As part of Lovejoy's commitment to keep all children at our school safe and protected, students participate in the
WHO (We Help Ourselves)
program during the next two guidance lessons.
WHO is a research-based educational curriculum that was developed as a way to teach students personal safety skills that will enable them to take an active and necessary role in protecting themselves from becoming victims of abuse. The message of the WHO program is:
Know- Recognize potentially dangerous situations, learn and practice personal safety rules to help avoid risk
Do- Have a plan of action; think ahead about what to do in a scary, dangerous or uncomfortable situation
Tell- Ask someone you trust for help; it's important to tell someone about situations that are uncomfortable
Students are taught to identify and outsmart the tricks that are consistently used in predatory crimes. Children learn essential personal safety skills to improve self-reliance and raise self-esteem; all while being consistently reassured that most people are kind, safe, and committed to their well-being. Students also learn that they deserve to feel safe, protected, and happy. We use the term tricky people to describe people who trick kids. It does not matter how well you know them, how old they are, or what they look like, the only thing that matters is what they ask you to do
. If they ask you to do something unsafe or uncomfortable, they should follow
three simple rules . . .
* Say No
* Get Away
* Tell a trusted adult
Please feel free to give me a call or send me an email.

May 18th - Last Day to Return library and literacy library books
Note: Our end of year library system generates emails to parents each Monday for any overdue books. As we work on the end of year inventory, some of these books may "show up" if they were not scanned correctly when students returned them - please just let us know if that is the case. If you owe a payment for a lost or damaged book, please use the online payment system at the district website. You can wait to make a payment until after our inventory is complete during the last week of school. You will receive information then as well. An email is generated when the book is paid for and it will be removed from the students account. If you have any questions please feel free to stop by the library or email [email protected] or [email protected].

Message from the Nurse:
We are currently seeing a very contagious stomach virus (some not having fever, seems to last about 12-24 hrs),
strep throat and allergy symptoms. There is also a virus that is lasting approx. 2-3 days-predominate symptoms seem to be fever, nausea/vomiting, and slight to moderate sore throat. We have not seen any
diagnoses of flu recently but this virus is flu-like.
We ask that children be free from fever
without medicine, diarrhea, or vomiting for 24 hours before returning to school to prevent illnesses from spreading. Fever is considered 100.0 or greater.
If your child is absent from school, written documentation is needed. Please email [email protected] and [email protected] with the date and reason for the absence. Thanks for all you do at home to keep your children healthy and in school.
Please refer to the Lovejoy ISD web site under Hart Campuses / Departments / Clinic for more info. about the flu.

Lovejoy Parent Authors Book
Susan Hoemke, a Lovejoy parent, has authored a book titled,
Healing Scarred Hearts which will be released on May 8th. Following is information shared by Susan:
"After we lost our son Hayden in 2014 to drug overdose and our family was impacted the 8 years as he struggled with addiction and personality disorder, I began to feel the need to educate other families about what all we learned. I have been working with Kathy Stone to build a better drug awareness program. In 2016, when the Opioid crisis made the news, I decided to write a book and in 2017 Brown Books Publishing accepted my manuscript and this began the process to bring our story to the frontline.
Healing Scarred Hearts will be released May 8th with hopes to bring education and healing to the complicated issue of substance abuse, addiction and overdose. My book also shares the crisis of legal issues that many times are associated with kids and substance abuse."

FC Leopard Indoor Summer Soccer
Two Lovejoy parents, Abby Gray and Dan Murphy, are forming a Lovejoy 4th Grade girls indoor soccer team. The idea of the team is for girls with a similar interest in soccer to get to know each other and have fun. The goal is to have a team of girls from Lovejoy, Hart and Puster Elementary Schools. Basic information follows:
- 1-2 practices at the beginning of the season to understand the rules and get to know other players
- 8 total games, 45 minutes long, no playoffs, no trophies - just having some fun, getting some exercise, and getting to know other girls
- It's indoor at PSA Murphy so it will always bright and air-conditioned. Games are from June 2nd through August 12th
- Fast-paced, non-stop action. The clock never stops and the substitutions are real time
- Since we will not be having practices, we are looking for girls who have played soccer within the last year
- Both recreational and competitive players are welcome
