May the 4 th Be With You
Dear Friends,
The Star Wars franchise has had a huge impact on our culture, on my generation, and on me as an individual. It doesn’t seem odd to me at all to celebrate Star Wars Day on this May 4 th . If you want to geek out a little more just visit https://www.starwars.com/may-the-4th and find some more info and activities to occupy your mind and time.
I think it is easy for a person of faith to speak of “the force.” We might equate it with the power of God or the gift of the Holy Spirit, or with the power of love. The Christian tradition, and many other faith traditions, offer blessings which wish wellbeing upon another. The Aaronic blessing is a familiar example, “The Lord bless you and keep you…” (Numbers 6:24-26).
The term Godspeed comes from a blessing or wish of wellbeing upon a traveler (meaning may God prosper you in your journey ). Today we might say “God bless you.” Or “Peace be with you.” Or “God be with you ‘til we meet again.” How do you offer blessings within your family?
Consider how you, as a parent, might bless your children as they go out into the world. What words will you use to encourage them and to give them comfort and peace. What will you say to remind them of your faith, of God’s presence and love? How will you remind them that you cherish them? Let’s offer God’s blessings to one another as we go into the world. Get creative and have fun.

 To God be the Glory!
Robert
