SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: BE PART OF "THE NET"

This year, the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce will embark on new territory with our very own magazine for members -
the net . We are very excited to announce this publication and how you can be a part of it. We thought about creating a Chamber Directory and knew that it would probably sit on a shelf and not be read, so to encourage you to learn more about fellow members, member services and member events, we decided to create our very own magazine. With the help of Macomb Now Magazine , we anticipate a 24-page glossy magazine, with our own look and feel, telling the stories only we can tell about chamber members and the people behind the businesses the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce interacts with every day.

Any advertising questions you have can be answered by Macomb Now's Ad Sales Representative Diane Bowles at (586.622.6621 x8) or the Chamber's Business Development Director Gina Rieck (586.731.5400 x15).

MEMBER TIP:
TAX DEDUCTIBILITY OF BUSINESS MEALS AND ENTERTAINMENT
by UHY LLP
The Tax cuts and Jobs Act held many changes to tax planning and required documentation for business owners in 2018. One of those changes is meals and entertainment deductibility. Prior to 2018, meals and entertainment have been mostly considered 50 percent deductible for tax purposes as long as the taxpayer could show that the meal and/or entertainment had a business purpose or relation. There were even circumstances where the taxpayer could deduct 100 percent under specific exceptions. Tax years beginning Jan. 1, 2018 or later will be held to stricter guidelines for meals and entertainment deductibility.

Health & Wellness Focus Group

The Health and Wellness group members work together on challenges they're trying to solve and offer fellow members encouragement and suggestions for becoming better equipped to manage and support their organizations. This process works to strengthen everyone who attends.

Their mission is to collaborate with other Chamber members to build awareness of and draw attention to their individual needs. Meetings include open networking, relationship building and problem solving with mutual support, all focused on the unique needs for the wellness of the community.

Meetings are held on the first Thursday of each month at 9:30 am at Northpoint Village. To learn more about this group and to schedule a visit, please contact Chamber staffer, Patty Le Duc, at 586.731.5400 x21 or email.

M-59 RECONSTRUCTION PROJECT UPDATE FROM MDOT:

Last week was a big week on the M-59 project in that MDOT was able to switch traffic to the median on both bounds. Contractors have been working quickly on removing the existing pavement. They also began the 10-day closure of Romeo Plank on Monday. MDOT will continue rebuilding the roadway and reconstructing driveways. They are finalizing the schedule of how these driveway closures will happen in order to maximize access to businesses. If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact MDOT.
