In the midst of the Easter Bunny, baskets and candy, let us remember the true meaning of Easter in the resurrection of Jesus.  Easter, and the days leading up to Easter, are the cornerstone of our Catholic faith.  Reserve time this weekend to reflect on God's gift of his only Son...the greatest love story ever told.

We have some exciting things coming up next week.  Our 8th grade students continue to be very busy.  Next week, they will present their self-penned poetry at the Poetry Cafe on Wednesday evening.  They will also invite their grandparents to join them next Friday for breakfast.

Our 4th grade will host the school Mass next Friday at 1:30 p.m. and will serve as readers and altar servers.  Please join us if you are able.

Also on Friday of next week, we will have our first Movie Night for PreK through 5th grade and their families.  The students in grades 3-5 had the opportunity to vote for the movie of their choice out of 5 movies.  The winner was The Lego Movie.  Admission for the evening will be $1 per person and proceeds will be donated to the Gray House.  Please note that students must be accompanied by a parent in order to attend.

Easter Blessings!

Peace,

Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Busy In Music

We're having a fun-filled and busy Spring in Music!  Students have been working hard to prepare for several upcoming events, including monthly Masses, grandparent events, Stations of the Cross, and Arts Night.

Preschoolers have been having fun with xylophones - be sure to ask your children which notes they played and which animal they chose to find on the Safari!

Kindergarten  students did a fantastic job at their grandparent event last month, and are now working to learn music for the Closing Ceremony in  June.

Students in grades 1-3 have enjoyed learning St. Patrick's Day themed circle dances. Over the next few months, they will work with instruments and beginning music-reading skills.  Students in 3rd grade will also be preparing for our mass on the last day of school.

Students in 4th and 5th grade have been doing a great job with their  recorders.  Please remind your child to keep up with their weekly practice (60 minutes for 4th grade, and 75 minutes for 5th grade), as it counts for 25% of their grade.  Students who have finished the book (or who are fairly close) and have excellent work habits and behavior in class, are eligible for Honors Recorder. Honors Recorder students will play for some Masses during the remainder of the year, as well as on Arts Night ( May 17.)

The 6th grade students recently completed group projects on a musical instrument of their choice and will continue to study music history as well as prepare music for mass.  The 7th graders are putting the finishing touches on the short musicals that they have composed for Arts Night. They've done a fantastic job so far!  Our 8th grade students recently presented on a musical artist from the last fifty years and are now working to prepare for their grandparent event and graduation.

The choir is preparing several selections for Arts Night.  Our theme this year is "Road Trip Around America."  After Arts Night, students in choir will prepare music for the donor Mass and graduation.

I hope you'll have the opportunity to join us for some of our upcoming events and see the results of all the students' hard work. They're really doing a wonderful job!

I wish you all the best for a Happy and Blessed Easter Season!

National Junior Honor Society

Welcome NJHS New Members

This week, St. Michael's Academy current National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) members welcomed their 19 newest members.

More than just an honor roll, the NJHS is a way to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, leadership, service and character. As part of the ceremony, five candles representing the principles of NJHS are lit as members describe each principle and the importance it plays in the NJHS and its members.

Over the years, NJHS has become the nation's premier organization established to recognize outstanding middle school students.

Congratulations to all!

The Passion of our Lord Jesus Christ

Living Stations of the Cross

The 8th grade students did a most reverent presentation of The Living Stations of the Cross this week.  If you were present, you could not help but be touched by this powerful re-enactment.

 Easter Fun!

Student Council Easter Fun

Contratulations to Michael from Grade 1 who was the lucky winner of a HUGE Easter basket put together by the SMA Student Council.  I bet many of Michael's friends are hoping he will be sharing!

And Speaking Of Fun...

The Student Council also did an egg hunt for all of the preschool classes out on the preschool playground.  It didn't take long for the little ones to find all the eggs!

 Movie Night!

And The Winning Movie Is...

The Lego Movie!

The votes have been counted and the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders have chosen a movie for the upcoming movie night.  The Lego Movie won by a landslide!

So....get your pj's ready and grab your sleeping bag or blanket and pillow and head to the SMA gymnasium next Friday, April 6th. The doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and the movie will start promptly at 7 p.m.

And, of course, we will have popcorn and drinks available!
