co|Create: Artists Practice Xchange
|
We are very excited to launch a new initiative that gives artists the opportunity to share their own artistic practice with like-minded, supportive and inspiring fellow artists and producers.
Practice Xchange will be a safe and vibrant space where you can:
* Try out new ideas
* Gain feedback
* Share your practice with a wider community
* Meet like-minded artists
* Hopefully find new partners and collaborators
* Glean inspiration from your peers
How it works:
5 artists will each have 20 minutes to showcase their practice/idea in front of a small audience of peers. This will include 15 minutes of 'showing' and 5 minutes of feedback.
The 'showing' can be anything you like from a simple presentation to a full-blown workshop or participatory event. The more engaging the better!
There will then be time afterwards to network with fellow artists and audience.
Artists will be offered expenses of £20.

Networking Events: you either love 'em or you hate 'em! But, I think we all agree, they are an essential tool for the modern-day artist.
Creativity Works has been running networking events over a number of years, with varying success.
So, we thought we would let you do it!
We are looking for an artist, artist collective or a collaborative group to deliver a stupendous networking event on behalf of Creativity Works. It must:
* Appeal to artists at all stages of their career
* Appeal to artists who have an interest in social practice
* Be fun, engaging and innovative
* Be welcoming, safe and un-threatening
* Be accessible to artists from B&NES, Bristol and the wider area
We are interested to see how you would run this event in terms of location, possible theme, content, atmosphere, etc. It should reflect your interests, maybe your own artistic practice, but above all be an event that people want to attend.
Fee: £200 (venue costs negotiable but will not be more than an additional £50)
Target: 25-50 participants
Time: Sept/Oct Duration: 2 hrs
(artists attending the network event will be charged a small fee that will be administered and kept by Creativity Works)

The Creative Resilience Programme:

The Creative Resilience Programme is part of a new enterprise initiative Creativity Works will be delivering to a variety of users, participants and clients.
We aim to create an engaging, fun and above all creative programme of workshops and courses exploring personal and organisational resilience, aimed at:
* Adults with mental health challenges
* Artists
* Statutory Organisations
* Businesses
We are looking for three artists to help us devise this programme over the summer and be the first facilitators of the programme.
We are looking for artists who have experience of, or who are confident in:
* Devising and creating programmes of learning/training
* Being able to respond to a stimulus and devise creative responses
* An interest in Resilience
* Experience of using creative techniques for personal development, wellbeing, and team building
* Experience of working with one or more of our target groups
The freelance contract will consist of:
* 2 days research and development: initiating the material to be used in the programme alongside CW staff and Resilience experts
* 2 days facilitator training: devising and preparing the programme offer
* Fee: £150 per day
We anticipate there will then be the opportunity to deliver the programme, however this is dependent on sales. If you are interested in this opportunity please send a relevant CV and a cover letter of no more than 2 sides explaining your interest and why you would be suitable for this post. Artist Training - Last few places.

There are a few places left...
We are very excited to be able to offer you a wide-range of FREE Level 2 courses with a nationally accredited NCFE/CACHE qualification on completion.
This on-line training can provide essential core skills for Socially Engaged Artists when working in specific contexts with vulnerable groups. Artists who have previously taken these courses through Creativity Works have found them incredibly useful in their practice, and would highly recommend them.
The courses include:
* Behaviour that Challenges
* Children and Young People's Mental Health
* Dementia Care
* Mental Health Awareness
* Learning Disabilities
You must be able to commit to:
* One initial induction session held in a venue in Bath (exact date tbc) approx. 1.5 hours
* 6-8 weeks to complete the course on-line or through a workbook (approx. 4-6 hours per week)
Please note that if you start the course but do not complete you will be liable to pay the cost of £125

'The Rubbish Art Project, a community recycled art initiative is creating art from waste materials donated by the community of Shepton Mallet.
The project is looking for artists that have a strong track record in delivering community art from waste materials and have availability in the middle of August to create a piece of Artwork for an immersive exhibition launching on the 14th September.

Social Art Summit - call for expressions of interest

An Artist-Led Review of Socially Engaged Arts Practice in the UK

Over two-days artists from around the country will come together to share practice, showcase work and explore what it means to be making art through social engagement right now. The Summit will showcase the work of artists from around the UK and beyond testing the ground for a Social Art Biennale in 2020. Artists, activists, community groups, curators, students, academics, funders and sectors working in the arts and social realm are invited to join the conversation through a series of events at Site Gallery and other venues around the city.
Founded in 2016 by artists Eelyn Lee and R.M. Sánchez-Camus, Social Art Network [SAN] aims to build an international artist-led network; expand dialogue and develop agency in the field of art and social practice. Major partners include Site Gallery, Peckham Platform, a-n, University of Highlands & Islands and Middlesex University. Sheffield based artist Ian Nesbitt is guest co-convener.
Calls for expressions of interest in participation
We encourage interested parties to consider and respond to the question what does it means to be making art through social engagement right now?
Proposals can take the form of exhibitions, presentations, seminars, performances, participatory workshops, walks, new media or any other form we haven't yet imagined! We are actively seeking new ways of sharing practice and process while encouraging discussion so please feel free to suggest new ways of doing this. We are interested in forms that reflect practice and are keen to represent diverse modes of engagement.
Ten years of severe austerity measures together with the wider devisive political climate has triggered a sense of urgency for conversations around the impact on communities and the art being made with and within them. We are interested in questioning, what kind of society do we want to live in and what roles can artists play?
By issuing this open call we are seeking to reveal the practices and ideas that are out there at this moment in time. The artist-curators will select a range of contributors to reflect vital perspectives on race, class, gender, sexual orientation, disability, age and national status, including areas where each of these might intersect.
Proposals should include the following information:
- Title
- Description (250-350 words)
- Visuals (max. 4 references)
- Biog (max. 50 words per presenter)
- Contact info email / mobile / website
- Type of participation (talk, visuals. dialogue, film, workshop, one to one, meals, etc) and sent via email to [email protected]

Social Art Network
In 2016 artist and filmmaker Eelyn Lee was selected by Artquest to convene a group of artists with socially engaged practices to form a Peer Forum at Peckham Platform. These sessions with twelve artists, triggered urgent conversations around the need to de-marginalise the practice, leading to the idea for the Social Art Summit.
In 2017 Eelyn and fellow peer forum artist R.M. Sánchez-Camus co-founded Social Art Network (SAN), a base from which to realize these ideas. Eelyn and Marcelo are working collaboratively to co-convene the Social Art Summit; build a network of artists with social art practices and develop the first ever Social Art Biennale. SAN aims to build agency for artists and communities making art through social engagement whilst developing new audiences for the work both nationally and internationally.
Funding
To date we have secured funding for logistical aspects of the Summit including venue hires and staffing. Further fundraising is currently ongoing. Social Art Network has been developed through the volunteer labour of artists interested in social practice.
