First "Coasties" Among Veterans in Spring VOICES Reading
Tiffani K. Patterson and Bill Cunningham (left, second from left) were the first U.S. Coast Guard veterans to participate in ArtsOC's VOICES: Veterans Storytelling Project since the inception of the program four years ago. They were joined by Greg Nutt, a U.S. Air Force veteran (third from left) on the chilly evening of March 28 free public reading at Heroes Hall, attended by 100. Local actor Nicholas Thurkettle (right), read for Sean Mahoney, a U.S. Air Force veteran who lives outside the area. Notable about this latest group of military veteran stories was the fact that none had served in combat--yet many of their experiences were just as dangerous and harrowing. The project coordinator and teaching artist is Dave Barton. VOICES is presented in collaboration with Heroes Hall at OC Fair & Event Center and the Tierney Center for Veterans Services of GoodwillOC. It is supported with funds from Orange County Community Foundation and The William Gillespie Foundation.

The legislation in contention are Articles 11 and 13. Article 11 will allow publishers to charge platforms if they link to their stories (the "link tax").
