James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art Grand Opening

St. Petersburg's newest museum, the James Museum of Western & Wildlife Art, opened its doors with a soft opening on Saturday, April 7th. Tom and Mary  James purchased the 134,000 square foot building at 150 Central Avenue in 2015. The museum holds over 400 pieces on view in 80,000 square feet of transformative space. Additional space will house businesses including Datz restaurant, Woodhouse Day Spa and Club Pilates.

"I wanted to have a museum that tells the story of the West," said James, 75, chairman emeritus of financial giant Raymond James.  The Grand Opening celebration is scheduled for April 29th to host  a weekend of festivities, including Native American dancers, artist talks, live music, and create & take workshops for kids.

Tampa's Oxford Exchange owners announce a new restaurant in St. Pete

The Peabody, a restaurant planned by the owners of the Oxford Exchange, announced an opening of September 21st in St. Petersburg's Innovation District.  The 4,000 square foot restaurant will be located on the first floor of the new Johns Hopkins All Children's Research and Education building.  The new space will have a separate identity from its Tampa counterpart, but capture the same eclectic and conversational atmosphere.

The new restaurant space will play a key role growing St. Petersburg's Innovation District.  Social interactions between workers are essential to collaboration, learning and inspiration, and occur in concentrated "hot spots" in innovation districts, according to a September report from the Brookings Institution, a nonprofit public policy organization based in Washington, D.C., that has studied innovation districts around the world.
