Parent Resources & Updates
Early Intervention Program Update
In our Chicago toddler group, we have been learning about rain and weather. The children have enjoyed pretending to be in a rainstorm and making cloud and rainbow crafts. The parents have been practicing modeling grammatically correct language for their children. It's
important for children with hearing loss to hear all of the little parts of sentences so they can later include them in their own sentences. For example, it's important to model "open THE door" rather than just "open door."
In Wood Dale, the toddlers are working on the body parts theme. They were treated to a performance from the Trinity Irish Dance group for St. Patrick's Day. We also have three kiddos turning three this month!
Congratulations to Wendy Deters

Audiology Update
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that makes available a free appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and ensures special education and related services to those children.
The IDEA governs how states and public agencies provide early intervention, special education, and related services to more than 6.5 million eligible infants, toddlers, children, and youth with disabilities.
Lovin' Literacy - Reading is so Important!
Reading is so important! Just as an
article in Neuroscience News states, reading to young children can improve their receptive language by up to 8 months. That's huge! In order to thrive in social and academic situations, children must have a solid foundation of receptive and expressive language. Read, read, read! Don't forget, this month we are doing a BOOK IT challen
ge with a super exciting incentive. If the students collectively read 12,000 minutes, Principal Wendy will dye her hair a color of the students' choice and teachers will participate in a pie eating contest. Please re
member to turn in your BOOK IT calendars and help us reach our goal of 12,000 minutes this month!
Social Work Corner - Resources Available to Parents
The Illinois Service Resource Center (ISRC) Parent University is a resource for parents and guardians to further develop ideas and support for raising children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. ISRC has developed on-line modules on various topics and have made them available on the ISRC website. The link for the modules is:

The Child's Voice Parent Education Committee is strongly encouraging all current and alumni parents and guardians to view 3 of these presentations.
Current families, when you complete three modules, contact Marianne Benedek at [email protected] and you will receive a prize!
