SUNDAY SCHOOL

OFFERING
The current offering choice that the kids have picked is...

PICNIC IN THE PARK AND BACKPACK BLESSINGS
On Sunday, August 19th we will have church service at Viking Park at 11:00 am.  Bring chairs and/or blankets to sit on.  During the service we will bless the kids and their backpacks.  This is such an amazing opportunity for our children and our church community to come alongside them.  We hope you can make it (don't forget their backpacks).  Following the service there will be food, games and face painting!

GRADE PROMOTION SUNDAY
Sunday, August 26th we will be grade promoting all of our children ages 3 years old to incoming 6th graders.  It is a great time for the kids to be in the service.  They will be blessed and walk over the bridge to move them to the next classroom.  The incoming 6th graders will have a moment on stage of receiving a bible to start their journey into middle school.

*Please have your children start in their typical classroom, except incoming 1st-6th, have them start in Fellowship Hall (large group room).  You will then pick your children up in the next level up classroom.  Those students going into kindergarten will be picked up in the gym.

FAMILY EVENTS

We've had many AMAZING family events (with photos below) and lots of fun ones coming up.  We'd love for you to join us at some of the upcoming events and invite other families!  These events are not just for GCC families.

Summer Open Gyms
Looking for something to do to get out of the sun this summer?  We have open gym at GCC for kids ages infant to 5th grade.  It will run  every Wednesday until August 29th from 9:30-11:30 am.  There is no cost.  Parents MUST stay for the entire time that their children are there.  Anyone is welcome!

Gurnee Days
Sunday, August 12th, join us for the parade immediately following church service (suggestion to bring chairs before service to set them up on Old Grand Ave).  Then we'll head over to Viking Park for lunch (gatorade, water and chips provided) and watching a talent show.

Labor Day Family Camp
Friday, August 31st - Monday, September 3rd at Lake Geneva Youth Camp.  This is a great time to get away from the hustle and bustle to spend quality time with your family.  Here's a video of a family that has experienced the camp.

Phases Mini Retreat
Saturday, September 29th  from 3:00-4:30 pm.  No matter what age your child is this pertains to you.  Often we say, "It's just a phase," because we are struggling through a tough stage in our child's life but what if we embraced that stage with joy and love.  This retreat is a great way to learn how to do that.  Childcare is provided.

Fall Festival
Saturday, October 20th from 5:30-8:30 pm at Kroll's Farm.  There will be hayrides, a corn maze, farm animals and a potluck dinner.  The cost is $3 per person (max $12 per family).  Sign up will be coming soon.

Scavenger Hunt
This event allowed families to just be goofy!

Work and Worship Camp
It was hard work but a lot of fun!

Mother Daughter Spa Event
Everybody couldn't believe how spoiled they were!

DIRECTOR'S SECTION

I look at all the pictures, videos, and events above and think, "Are we doing too much?  Should I plan this many things?  Am I just adding to the busyness of life?"  I love that there are opportunities for everyone.  We don't all enjoy the same type of activities.  We have seasons that are busier for us than others.  There is never an expectation that you have to attend every event.  I can tell you that when we spend time together we get to know each other more and friendships grow.  Andy and I long for our children to have Christian friends, as well as non-christian friends, but what a great way to allow friendships to grow.

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm. Proverbs 13:20

Let us continue to reach out to our family and friends who are non-believers so that we can bring them around other believers.

I pray that through the events and activities that we have, many people can build relationships and come to know the Lord.

Sincerely,

Carrie Yeaman
