Safe and Clean Update:
Encampments on 7th between Maple and San Julian Cleaned
In early April, the City responded to requests from BID staff to clean the homeless encampments on 7th Street between Maple Avenue and San Julian Street. For months, the encampments blocked the entire sidewalk forcing pedestrians onto the busy street and causing them to avoid the bus stop at that location.
The BID has advocated tirelessly for increased City resources to address homeless encampment-related issues in the district, including an increase in fires. Since January 2018, this has resulted in the clean-up of four major encampments in the district and increased attention to the area from the LA Fire Department. In addition, the BID has successfully advocated for the City to increase funds for the Sanitation Department's encampment cleanup crews and for the Sanitation Department to give proportionate services based on need.
Safe Team Officer Nancy Alonzo Recognized by LAPD Boosters
Every year, the LAPD Central Boosters Club recognizes outstanding public servants and downtown BID officers at the annual public safety luncheon and awards ceremony. Safe Team Officer Nancy Alonzo was recognized as the 2018 Fashion District BID Officer of the Year for her dedication to the Fashion District. Officer Alonzo has been working for the BID for 10 years. She recently took a new post at Cedars Sinai. We will miss her and wish her all the best in future

Los Angeles Street Streetscape Ribbon Cutting
Join us, along with Councilmember Jose Huizar and Bureau of Street Services, for the official declaration of the Los Angeles Street Streetscape Project on Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

The $1.77 million project added pedestrian safety and beautification improvements from 7th Street to Olympic Boulevard, including new sidewalks, 23 new trees, high-visibility cross walks, landscaping, ADA-compliant curb ramps and lighting at bus stops.
Vote YES for BID Renewal
Property owners and/or their representatives should be on the lookout for BID renewal ballots. This is the second step in the renewal process. The City is expected to mail ballots around May 10th. Ballots should be returned as soon as possible, as there is a 45-day time limit on this phase of the renewal process.

Mother's Day is the most popular holiday of the year for flower vendors. Shoppers flock to the district for steep discounts on arrangements, bouquets and fresh-cut flowers, and supplies for DIY arrangements. The public can except to save up to 70% off retail prices. It is also a popular media day for the district, as many of the city's morning news shows broadcast live from the flower markets leading up to the holiday. The BID works with the flower markets and vendors to coordinate press coverage for the area.
BID Annual Stakeholder Meeting, May 24th
The 2018 Annual BID stakeholder meeting will focus on new developments in the Fashion District and feature presentations on the City's DTLA 2040 Community Plan. Come learn about the Main Street Park, City Market, Norton Building, Proper Hotel, South Mart Hotel Transformation, Southern California Flower Market, and more. Councilmember Jose Huizar will be in attendance.

New State Energy Disclosure Law for Buildings Over 50,000 sq. ft.
The State of California has a new Energy Disclosure Law, effective this year, for buildings over 50,000 sq. ft. California Assembly Bill "AB 802" will require commercial building energy reporting to the California Energy Commission (CEC) beginning June 1, 2018. Multi-family buildings will also be included in this bill. Click here for more information.
