Earth Day Clean Up
Participants of all ages are invited to come out for the 19th annual Earth Day Cleanup on Saturday, April 13. Volunteers can register at the Port of Burlington beginning at 8 AM to get
t-shirts, water bottles, trash bags and gloves. After going out to pick up litter throughout the community, they return to the Port for a free lunch, music, door prizes, and a group photo. Individuals, families, businesses, church groups, and organizations are all encouraged to lend a hand in caring for
our piece of earth. For more information, call Jessica Gerling
at 319-753-8151.
Spring Sip, Taste & Stroll
After a very long winter, what could be better than strolling with friends and sampling beverages and food downtown? The Spring Sip, Taste & Stroll takes place on Friday, April 26 from 5 to 8 PM. Join your friends and sample offerings from various wineries, distributors, and brewers at downtown businesses.
Discounted advance tickets are $15 at The Iowa Store or Weird Harold's. Tickets are $20 during the event at registration at both The Iowa Store and Weird Harold's. A complimentary glass is included while supplies last. This Downtown Partners fundraiser is open to those 21 or older.
Downtown Open 4 Business Competition
With Main Street Iowa and the Iowa Economic Development Authority, Downtown Partners presents the Open 4 Business competition for a for-profit business located in the Main Street district. Each of the state's Main Street organizations can nominate one business. Downtown Partners will hear pitches from up to three local applicants, with the winner chosen for the semifinals in June for a chance at $8000. The five finalists will present their ideas in a statewide contest in August for up to an additional $20,000 in funding.

The Latest News...
  • Call this one "Kegs & Conversation!" We decided to make DPI's next Coffee & Conversation an evening event at the Valley Monster, 217 Valley, on Wednesday, April 24 at 5:15 PM. We'll have updates about RAGBRAI plans, and you can connect with your downtown neighbors. Downtown business owners, building owners, employees, and residents are invited; thanks to Martha Wolf at the Uptown Ivy for sponsoring.
  • After the winter we've had, there is a LOT of sand and debris downtown. We'll be having a Downtown Clean Sweep on Monday, April 22 (Earth Day!) starting at 5 PM. Join us at Third and Jefferson with your stiff bristled brooms, dustpans, and buckets, and we'll fan out and get our downtown looking sharp.
  • Believe it or not, the Jefferson St. Farmers Market will have started before our next Downtown Update goes out! The market will run from 4:30 to 7 PM on Thursday evenings through the end of September, with no market on July 4. Go to GreaterBurlington.com/downtown  for more info, and remember, new vendors get a discount rate of only $105 for the whole 21-week season.
  • Cruise nights return on April 19!
