Lamb Back in Stock
We were getting pretty low on lamb, but we just processed a new batch that are ready to ship. Unfortunately we will not have much in organ meats as one of our customers has preordered just about all of them. But we have racks, rib chops and leg of lamb again, just in time for Easter.

Update on Hogs
Our hog producer ran into some financial problems and informed us that he will no longer be able to supply us with pigs. We are fortunate in that we were able to team up with a new producer, and it looks like what at first seemed like a bad thing will turn out to be a very good thing. He crosses Large Blacks with Mongolese hogs, a long haired and rugged breed, resulting in a cross that is very hardy in cold weather. They are entirely pastured and he supplements their feed with organic sprouted barley. We are very excited to be able to offer this new breeding and think it is going to be perfect for our customers. Pastured pigs are not the norm anymore, and finding a producer committed to the old ways is a treasure find.

First Calf of the Season
The first calf of the year is always an exciting time. You always want to first calf to be strong and healthy, and this one is no exception. The photo at the right shows him up on his new legs, looking kind of spindly. It is amazing how quickly they go from this to nursing and running around.

Life on the Ranch
Although we love seeing the elk, Allan is very frustrated to watch them eating up all the grass that he stockpiled for the cattle for winter feed. They will hopefully be heading back to the high country soon, but there are hundreds of them and a lot of damage has been done. We are having to feed out a lot more hay that we had hoped to do.
The wild turkey are plentiful this year. This one was roosting in a tree. Wish I could have gotten the picture as it flew off - it was a very cool sight.
This eagle was just sitting on the side of the road as we were leaving the ranch. I did catch him in flight, but missed the best picture from just underneath as he took off.

March Weather
What a difference a week can make. We got a very heavy snow mid March, then a very quick melt. These calves are fat and happy with the supplemental feed.

In Closing . . .
We are having some computer issues and I can't access my website to make any changes or to post the specials. So we are running the same special for April as we did for March. One more chance to take advantage of some great prices.
We are getting ready for irrigation season and looking forward to warmer days. Spring brings lots of wind to our area, and when it is a cold wind it is not very pleasant to be out in it. As that wind warms a bit it is very nice.
I am looking forward to planting my garden soon. Already planted some garlic, and have spinach, kale, broccoli, and carrots still growing in the greenhouse from last season. Hoping the fruit trees can weather the storms and cold weather that is sure to come before we settle into summer. The asparagus should start showing some life very soon as well. I think it is going to be a great year for gardening and can't wait to see those sprouts bursting forth.
