Montgomery County Announces MontcoStrong Small Business Grant Program
 
April 6th, 2020 - Recognizing the need to provide support to strengthen our local businesses and communities, Montgomery County is providing $1 million in economic development funds to provide grants to eligible small businesses. Administered in partnership with the Redevelopment Authority of Montgomery County with the Montgomery County Commerce Department, eligible applicants may apply for up to $25,000.
 
Applications will be accepted beginning on Wednesday, April 8, 2020 at 11 a.m.
 
 
Grant proceeds may be used for the following costs:
  • Rent/Mortgage Payments due from March 23, 2020 through July 31, 2020.
  • Payroll expenses from March 23, 2020 through July 31, 2020 - no more than 15% of eligible payroll costs can be used to pay any owner with more than 5% of the applicant entity.
  • Utility costs due from March 23, 2020 through July 31, 2020. Utilities must be directly tied to the business operations and/or physical location.
  • Debt service payments such as credit cards and loans in the businesses name (no more than $5,000 of total allowable costs) from March 23, 2020 through July 31, 2020. 
Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible to apply:
  • Be a for-profit business with a physical location in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania that was in operation on or before March 23, 2020 and can be identified as a business impacted by economic disruptions caused by the COVID-19 global pandemic and/or is a business that has closed as a result of the Governor of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania order relating to "non-life sustaining business" effective March 23, 2020.
  • Employed no more than fifty (50) individuals total (including all full time and all part-time staff) as of March 23, 2020 and currently employ no more than fifty (50) individuals total (including all full time and all part-time staff).  Priority consideration for funding will be given to those businesses that certify they are continuing to pay employees even while closed or significantly disrupted by the COVID-19 global pandemic.
  • Must be an incorporated business in and/or registered with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • 501c3, 501c4, and 501c6 entities are not eligible.

Join the Montgomery County Chamber for a presentation by Maura Shenker, Director of Temple University's Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Ms. Shenker will discuss the various loan programs available to small business owners, including programs from the CARES Act, like the Payroll Protection Program (PPP), and the Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL), and Small Business Administration (SBA) Express Bridge Loans. There will be time to ask questions.

Maura Shenker is the Director of Temple University's Small Business Development Center (SBDC). Before joining Temple University, Shenker served as director of Saint Joseph's University's Center for Professional Development. Shenker earned a Master of Organization Development and Leadership degree from Saint Joseph's University, where she also completed an executive coaching leadership program.

Temple University SBDC is part of the network of Pennsylvania Small Business Development Centers (SBDC), which are the only statewide, nationally accredited program that provides high quality one-on-one consulting, training and information resources to empower new and existing businesses. The SBDC program is a public/private partnership with the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development and 18 universities and colleges across the Commonwealth. Temple University SBDC's mission is to provide entrepreneurs and small business owners with the knowledge needed to make smart decisions and prosper.

The MontcoStrong Small Business Gift Card Network is a collaboration between all the chambers of commerce that serve Montgomery County along with the Montgomery County LGBT Business Council and the Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board partnering with the Montgomery County Commerce Department.

Virtual Business Exchange, April 21 with Business Builders

Here is how it will work. We can accommodate our first 30 participants. Ryan Rosenbaum, our Executive Director, will moderate a conversation, which will include an introduction by all attendees. We will be utilizing a free (and easy to use application) called Zoom.

We will have a special topic on ways we can all increase our business lead by Gary Kurtis who runs our Business Builders Committee and is also a Board Member and owner of SalesTips101.
Attendees are encouraged to update their Linkedin profiles before our virtual event, and we will share the contact list with all of our attendees after the event. If you have a short message or offer, we will include that in a special email sent out to our full list on Wednesday, April 22.

Donate to the MontcoPA COVID - 19 Response Fund




To respond to this growing crisis, concerned leaders joined together to create a rapid response fund for Montgomery County: The MontCoPA COVID-19 Response Fund.  Financial contributions will exclusively assist community safety net organizations critically impacted by the current public health crisis.
 
Contributions: All individuals, businesses and institutions wishing to make a donation to the MontCoPA COVID-19 Response Fund are invited to do so by clicking here.
Donations of any size may be made online, by check or by wire.

Grants: The MontCoPA COVID-19 Response Fund will provide grants to nonprofit organizations with a successful track record of serving vulnerable populations in Montgomery County.  Initial grant applications may be submitted for up to $5000. PPE PA Hospitals Urgently N eed Medical Personal Protective Equipment

The PA Chamber is making two urgent requests of businesses acr oss Penn sylvania
  • We are imploring businesses that have access to or a supply of N95 masks, eye gear, medical gowns and medical gloves and do not anticipate the need to utilize these items in the near future to donate them to their local hospitals.
    If you are able to assist in this crucial request, please email [email protected]. Any questions may be directed to Joe Tibbs, President of HAPEvolve, who is coordinating the effort on behalf of HAP-The Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania.
