Deadline for Subscription Busing for the 2018-19 School Year Today, June 15th

The North Caldwell Board of Education will once again offer a subscription busing program for the 2018-19 school year. Under this program, children who live more than two miles from their school will continue to be bused without charge, and children who live two miles or less from their school will be required to pay a subsidized cost to receive busing. If you live more than two miles from school and your family is entitled to busing, you have already received a letter from the Board of Education. Please  click here for Frequently Asked Questions on the subscription busing program, which we encourage you to review as you complete the application process.

All families that are interested in purchasing subscription busing for the 2018-19 school year must register and pay for your seat on the bus by June 15, 2018. The transportation company will need time to properly implement the program once subscription levels are known. This is the final deadline; we cannot provide any extensions.

Please go to  https://ncboe-eresctrans.com/online-payment/ and complete your application for subscription busing. As part of the application, you will be asked to select your top two choices for bus stops. You can access your current bus stop assignment by logging into your account on the Genesis Parent Portal.

The cost for busing is $450 per child for the entire school year, with a maximum charge of $1,000 per family. The charge for an a.m. or p.m. only route is $300 per child. One-way busing is subject to availability. Payment can be made via Credit Card, PayPal, or Check. All payments must be received no later than June 15, 2018.

Classroom Happenings
  • The  levidrome campaign is catching on as a learning language tool. If you aren't familiar, 5-year-old Levi from Victoria, Canada, is obsessed with palindromes. He was driving in a car with his mom when they pulled up to a stop sign. He noticed that Stop spells Pots backwards. As it turns out, there is no word in the dictionary for this linguistic phenomenon. He, being 5, wanted to name it after himself so he started calling these words ' levidromes.' Webster's and Oxford told him that to get a word into the dictionary, it needs to be used a lot. So, Levi's family made a  YouTube video.

Mrs. Norton's 3rd grade class has been in contact with Levi and his class throughout this year. Our class even inspired them to read the book Frindle, a book about a boy named Nick, who invented the word Frindle (which means pen).  On Tuesday, May 21st, we Skyped with Levi's class, telling them about our favorite parts of the book Frindle . Then, we discussed what we were doing over the summer. Our class had so much fun meeting our pen pals.

Help us help Levi and his class by posting his YouTube story on your Facebook or Twitter pages. Thank you Grandview and Gould School families for your support of 'levidrome!'

  • The third grade classes celebrated their exploration of science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics with "STEAM AHEAD" on May 18th. Family members and Grandview students learned about a variety of science concepts and were then invited to create a final product using the design process. Some students illustrated their concepts with art and poetry. Others used Chromebooks and created slideshows about their subject matter.

  • The Kindergarten students culminated the year by performing in the Kindergarten Celebration on May 24th. With the help of Ms. Williams and the Kindergarten team, the students performed songs for their families.  Afterwards, the students and their families continued the fun in their classrooms with a slideshow and refreshments. It was a great way to end the wonderful year we've had! We wish everyone good luck in first grade!
  • During the second grade STEM project, students were given a problem and needed to complete the challenge. The problem was pretending their family got lost on a hiking trail. A rain storm was coming, and they needed shelter to keep the family and their gear dry. The challenge was for the students to build a shelter to keep the families dry. They were given a paper family that had to fit inside their shelter, a list of supplies that they were able to build with, and a budget of $10. When students completed their shelter, Ms. Cimera sprayed their shelter with water to see if it would protect the family from the rainfall. Students showed excellent teamwork in their groups and worked well together while combining their ideas. A big thanks to the awesome parents for going above and beyond providing all of the supplies for the students to complete this STEM project.
  • Students in Mrs. Norton's class are interested in starting a student newspaper. The segment below was written by two of those students.
The Third Grade Picnic
By: Chloe Rudman and Nick Schwartz
The third grade picnic was so much fun! The date was May 30, 2018. The activities were balloon toss, a fire truck came and squirted everybody with water, relay races, face paint, and a DJ came. Nick's favorite part was when the classes did the water balloon toss. Chloe's favorite part was getting her face painted like a unicorn! The third grade picnic was a blast! We will never forget these memories!

  • Students in grades first, second and third celebrated their culminating event in health and physical education at Field Day on Tuesday, June 5th. The theme was "Physical Education Builds A Strong Nation!" and students were asked to wear red, white, and blue in spirit for the United States of America, Flag Day, and the Fourth of July. Students traveled to six different "states" to participate in a game or activity related to each state with the emphasis of Field Day involving having fun, showing good sportsmanship, trying your best, and demonstrating teamwork. At the end of each grade's Field Day, students participated in using their sign language skills for "God Bless America." Each student received a personalized certificate for their participation in Field Day! The NCPE and parent volunteers were a tremendous support and assistance in making it a great day for the students.
  • The first graders were thrilled to perform in the first annual Animal Show this year. The first grade teachers, Ms. Williams, Mrs. Sponzilli, and Mrs. Burg all put forth tremendous effort to bring this show to life! The students researched animals and created beautiful murals to present to their parents.
