As we are all gearing up for the summer season I wanted to share a few resources. You don't have to look through all the archives but please pay attention to the main articles. This information should help you with training and running a smooth program. Feel free to respond to this email if you have any questions.

Due to weather, and other conflicts, many people were unable to attend the Milfoil Summit. The DEP recorded me (Mary) narrating the powerpoint slideshow that I used at the summit. This presentation is designed to be used by the CBI coordinator. I would not suggest showing the entire thing during an inspector training.

Please do not put this link on any websites. For legal reasons we can only email the link to others and play it during trainings. Here is the  link:

2018 Inspection Form
There have been changes to the inspection form since the CBI Handbook was printed. So please use this new form as the one from the handbook and what was handed out at the summit is outdated.

There are three major changes on the form:
  • # of trailers upon arrival line. Inspectors should be looking at parked trailers when their shift starts.
  • Page number. In the upper right corner of the page there is a place to track how many sheets are used in a shift. If you have more than one this box can help you keep track.
  • Previous Waterbody Visited. I changed this to say "for all inspections". Previous versions have said "for entering inspections". Inspectors should be asking boaters this question both ways.
A "fillable" version of the inspection form is available. This allows the coordinator to pre-fill some lines to cut down on mistakes. Click here for the fillable PDF.

Data Entry
The DEP will be hosting a webinar on how to fill out the
electronic inspection form on Friday, May 11th at 10:00am. More information about this will be coming from Karen Hahnel soon.

To prepare for the data entry season the DEP needs an updated list of all inspectors at each organization. They will populate a drop down menu on the form with those names to cut down on spelling errors and just make it easier. The new form templates should be available by May 21st. The DEP is asking that inspector lists be sent to Karen Hahnel by May 14th. If you don't know the names of all of your inspectors by then please just send what you do have.

Please do not use the old template for data entry. If you have questions before the webinar please email Karen: karen.a.hahnel@maine.gov.
Clean, Drain, Dry
Invasive small-bodied organisms, such as zebra mussels, can survive in standing water. Other New England states require boaters to drain and dry their boats between water bodies.

Please make sure that your inspectors are familiar with the clean, drain, dry message. The procedure is outlined on page 1&2 in the CBI handbook
