How to Start Conversations in the New Year
It’s a new year! You’re probably looking forward to starting a fresh conversation with your customers and clients. But you might not know where to begin.
We all desperately want to move away from the past and avoid constant references to COVID. But the pandemic didn’t seem to get the memo. It doesn’t seem to want to leave us alone yet.
So, how can we truly get off to a fresh start?
First, figure out what you’re trying to accomplish. For most companies, you’ll be looking to:
- Re-Engage Your Audience
- Attract New Interest
- Reward Your Loyal Followers
In an ideal scenario, these aren’t three separate tasks. That’s too much work! Instead, figure out how you can tackle these goals with a unified approach.
For example, you might want to outline your company’s vision for 2021. This will demonstrate that you have a strong plan in mind. It will reaffirm your audience’s belief in your brand.
Another idea is to explain how you will provide customers and clients with the best experience possible, including both service and safety. That’s still a big priority right now.
Either of these approaches can be shared through the lens of your “resolutions.” It’s the perfect time of year to lay the groundwork for change and/or renewal.
Our resolution? To embrace radical authenticity, beautiful simplicity, and outstanding empathy.
That means staying true to ourselves, while being more direct with customers and clients than ever before. It means not overcomplicating things, because the world’s still sorting itself out.
In 2020, we learned that trying to meet everyone in their changing emotional and mental states from week to week is an impossible feat. When brands tried to accomplish it, they wound up with murky messaging that didn’t truly connect with anyone.
Frankly, it’s so much easier to “share where you are” (aka, be open and honest). That also makes it easier for the right people to find you. Your consistency will reward them over time.
So tell people where you’re headed this year, and invite them to come along.
That’s how you kick off marketing campaigns with understanding and grace in 2021.
