The Alabama Commission on Higher Education has approved the University of South Alabama Mitchell College of Business’s request to change its Doctor of Business Administration to a Doctor of Philosophy in Business Administration. The change means graduates will earn a Ph.D. instead of a DBA. 

Message from the Dean
As always, March has been an interesting month in South Alabama.  The city’s annual celebration of Mardi Gras came to a screeching halt on Fat Tuesday.  Two finance faculty members and I missed the big day traveling to New York City with students attending the Financial Management Association Leadership Conference. 

Student Spotlight: Owen Hicks
My name is Owen Hicks, and I am a senior accounting major from Gadsden, Alabama. By the time I graduate, I will have participated in four study abroad programs and completed three accounting internships.

Alumni Spotlight: Jason Saulters
Although you won’t find Jason Saulters in the classrooms of South any longer, you may find this alumnus fishing or enjoying all the great outdoors has to offer! When he is not fishing, reading, and writing, he enjoys coaching sports and participating in all of his children’s activities.

South Team Wins Real Estate Competition
A team of six real estate students in the University of South Alabama’s  Mitchell College of Business  beat out teams from 47 competing universities to win the grand prize in the 2018 University Portfolio Challenge.

2019 Financial Management Association Leaders’ Conference
Sixteen student members of the South Alabama chapter of the Financial Management Association (FMA) attended the 2019 FMA Leaders’ Conference on March 7th and 8th in New York City.

Faculty Accomplishments
Dr. Khandokar Istiak presented the paper “Impact of US policy uncertainty on Mexico: evidence from linear and nonlinear tests” in the Eastern Economic Association Conference (Feb 28-March 3) 2019 in New York.

Student Snapshots
