Driven by our dreams
As I write this, we are preparing at the Christine Center for the “Dreaming the Barn” event April 15 and 16. It’s a celebration of change and growth, and it fits perfectly with this particular moment in the life of this beloved woodland sanctuary.
The barn was part of the farm purchased in 1980 by our founder Sister Virginia Mary Barta, and it became our meditation hall, program area and library. The silo became the chapel. The barn, over time deemed unsafe for those uses, is now used for storage, and a replica of the silo serves as the distinctive entry to the building erected in 2000.
Long-time friends of the Christine Center are gathering to honor the legacy of that illustrious old barn, to pay homage to the years of spiritual deepening they found there, and to dream of what may come next. This creative enterprise is a key part of the energy and spirit driving the center’s journey toward sustainability.
The barn both echoes and is a part of the greater evolution of the center—just as the evolution of the center echoes and is part of our transformation and spiritual deepening. As I watch the process, I sense a blossoming awe: There is something poetic, if not miraculous, about the way the currents come together and flow in rhythm with the character of the center itself.
It’s enough to make me pause, look around, and whisper joyfully, “Amen.”

Meditation: A Journey Within

Taste the nourishment of silence, meditation and community as we rest in the stillness and natural beauty of the Christine Center. A meditation retreat is an opportunity to explore, with guidance, the possibility of greater calm, insight, and awareness. We can learn to defuse stress, broaden our perspective, and deepen our ability to face the challenges of each day. We will enjoy periods of Insight Meditation, Loving Kindness Meditation, group guidance, and solitude. Our hope is that our time together will lead to greater clarity, connection and compassion.

Join us as we take a 24 hour “time out” from our busy lives to unwind one serene breath at a time. You may even choose to extend your stay and create your own customized personal retreat.
