St. Michael's Academy
:
What a great week at St. Michael's Academy! Despite the heat, we had lots of things going on:
- Our Advancement Office coordinated a two-day phonathon AND our participation in Valley Gives and raised over $9,000 for the school! Thank you donors!
- We held our annual May crowning of the Blessed Mother with our Gr. 2 students.
- We had our 8th grade graduation photo taken.
- Our 8th grade Science Fair was held.
- An ice cream social was held for the 8th grade to reminisce with their teachers from over the years.
- We had our Spirit Day cookout with hot dogs and hamburgers.
- And finally we had the famous volleyball game and you will have to read on in the newsletter to learn of the outcome!
No wonder we are tired at the end of the week!
Enjoy a nice weekend.
Peace,
Ann E. Dougal
Principal

Reflections from 5A
At the end of the school year, I tend to reflect on what has been working in the classroom and what has not. I think about what I have learned and how I will adjust my teaching in the future.
This year, I was reflecting on how much I have learned about using the Smartboard to enhance learning in the classroom. I have also been integrating the new document camera with the Smartboard. These two pieces of technology provide so many resources and opportunities for the students.
I was remembering how much creativity the students showed with their amazing Creation Fair projects in April...their paintings, poetry, power points, posters, products made of recyclables, and more.
Finally, I was thinking about how helpful brain breaks have been to energize and motivate the students during the day.
I thought it would be interesting to ask the students in 5A to reflect on what they have learned this year and how they have grown. This is some of what they said...
- "Some cool things I loved learning about this year were fractions and decimals..."
- "I've learned when a lot of important events in our country's history happened."
- "This year in school I learned better ways to study and my grades have improved."
- "I learned that the key to having joy is this...J is for Jesus first, then the O is for others, then the Y is for you. This is how you get JOY."
- "I've learned about the way volcanoes are formed and how earthquakes happen by plate movement."
- "Adding and subtracting decimals - I have become good at this skill because in school we do a lot of work on it. The hard work pays off on the tests."
- "Sometimes things don't go as planned...I learned you have to go with the flow."
- "This year I learned that when you go into higher grades, you have to work harder and study more."
- "This year I learned to be more fascinated about history. We learned about the Aztecs, the Inca, and the Maya. We learned about their lifestyles and their enemies."
- "I learned that God is always with us."
- "This year, in math, I've learned how to multiply, divide, add, and subtract decimals."
- "I have gotten quicker with my math facts for the "Around the World" game."
- "I can do anything if I try!"
Very wise words!
