May 2018

May is a big month at Haygood!

This Saturday is our Family Field Day. This is a quick and fun event that takes place on the Plaza at 10 a.m. Bring the family. Bring your friends. Bring your friend's family!

Our last Wednesday Night Supper is May 9th, and it's Italian Night - you do not have to be Italian to participate! Come join us for spaghetti and meatballs and all the other things that make spaghetti supper wonderful.

Graduation Sunday is coming up (May 20), so please send us the names of your graduates, a bio, and a photo so that we may honor them during the service.

On the horizon are VBS, Mission Camp, and a youth retreat, along with pickleball and volleyball to keep you laughing and moving.

Happy spring, and we'll see you at church!

Youth Ministry

Camp Lee!

Summer retreat to Camp Lee is June 6th - 10th, and registration is open!

It's going to be a great time with awesome speakers and a worship band, small groups, zip lines, ropes courses, natural rock slides, and lots more to do you while you take a break from the big wide world and strengthen your relationships with God and each other.

Sign-up information is in the weekly youth email.

Sundays
Sunday morning youth programming happens Sunday mornings, during the Sunday school hour (10am). This year we will be going through Daniel Erlander's Manna and Mercy using SEEDS (Strategic Encounters to Engage and Disciple Students)! Youth Worship will be the Informative half to SEEDS, while Sunday Night Youth will be the Transformative half. Youth Worship will be an engaging time where middle and high school students will get to interact with Erlander's 100-page paraphrase of the Bible by using Lectio Divina, an ancient Christian practice that helps us approach scripture as living word and not simply a text to be studied. We'll learn new things by looking at the Bible in a new way, think about how what we've learned makes us feel, respond by sharing, and then come up with a step-one, so we can put what we've learned together into action. Meet in Taylor's office!

Sunday Night Youth is on Sunday Nights from 6-8pm. This is the Tansformative half of SEEDS mentioned above, where we will build our faith community together, sharing good food, worship, games, and small group time!

Wednesday Night Youth!
Wednesdays from 6:15-7:15 we play games and have a mid-week check-in and time for prayer. This is an opportunity for our youth to center themselves in the middle of the week! Come, take a deep breath, talk about the what's been the best and worst parts of their week so far, and pray.

Adult Ministries
Haygood's United Methodist Men Thursday Morning
group meets each week (on Thursday) from 7-8 am in the Grizzard House. There is always coffee, a light breakfast, fellowship (sports and news talk), faith conversation, and prayer.

The Current book selection is Romans 1-7 for You by Timothy Keller. It's available at the Grizzard House.

Haygood's Combined Adult Sunday School Class meets in Room 105 in the Gym, just beyond the coffee and doughnuts table. The door may be closed, but late arrivals are always welcome.

Gary Fedota, facilitator, is leading a series focused on Deuteronomy 6:4 - Listen Israel, God - our God - is one.

The discussion is about how God is One, and how our experience is so often about difference. How do thoughts and actions become one? What are your thoughts? What are your actions? Let us know on Sunday morning.

Wednesday Night Supper
Our last Wednesday Night Supper for spring is on May 9.

As always,  our supper prices are $10/adult; $5/child, payable at the door. We take cash, checks & major credit cards.

Our last supper for spring is on May 9, and then we'll pick back up in  June with some cookouts. You'll want to be sure to come and meet our new Senior Pastor, Will Zant and his family: Blair, Katie, and Bethany.

All contributions will be donated to Intown Christian Ministry.
