Be Strong, Be Fearless, Be Beautiful

Join us this Sunday as we conclude Women's History Month. The choir will premiere a new piece by Keaton Springfield, "Be Strong, Be Fearless, Be Beautiful," set to a text by Misty Copeland, American Ballet Theater's first African-American prima ballerina. This piece was commissioned in memory of former choir member Herb Kiesling.
Herb's passion was that every child and young person would have an equal opportunity to develop their talents. He focused much of his work on activities that would remove the "risk" for children in school. Mr. Kiesling led a study to determine how early educators in the Monroe County Community School Corporation could identify those children who were most at-risk for dropping out, and he supported efforts to provide mentors in elementary schools for
those children.

Unity in Community Service at Bethel AME
Please join our racial justice team this Sunday afternoon, March 31st, at 4:30, for a Celebration of Unity in Our Diversity at the Bethel AME Church here in Bloomington. This event is organized by the Bloomington Area Interfaith Alliance, and is an opportunity for all to join together and celebrate our friendships and common values with some joyful music and worship.
The service will be followed by a reception at Bethel AME, co-sponsored by the UU Bloomington Racial Justice Task Force. Bethel is on the northeast corner of Rogers and 7th Street (302 N Rogers St).

This Week in Religious Education: Generosity
World of Wonder (Preschool) will be exploring our Indigo UU Promise: Insist on Peace as they hear "Horton Hears a Who."
Roots and Wings (K-2nd grade) will think about memory and intergenerational connections through Wilfred Gordon McDonald Partridge and the Orange UU Promise: Offer fair and kind treatment to all.
Curiosity Club (3rd-6th grade)
will continue to work with Green Grounds to rake and get the ground ready for spring planting, as well as start some indoor seeds. Kids in 6th grade and up are welcome to join us in Curiosity Club!
High School Youth Group
will be sharing a potluck lunch and playing favorite board games.

Outreach Table for Community Justice and Mediation Today
Envisioning a fair community that learns from conflict, prevents harm, and grows in understanding, CJAM aims to promote civility and peace through mediation, education, and restorative justice. As a local non-profit organization with more than 40 community volunteer mediators, their work focuses on restoration, education, empowerment, and community-building. Terry Amsler, a member of our congregation, will be at a table in Fellowship Hall between services to share information about this community asset. Learn more at

Visit the Pledge Booth to Support Our Budget for Next Year
Beginning this Sunday, March 31, there will be several easy opportunities for you to make a financial pledge for the coming 2019-20 year (July 1, 2019-June 30, 2020). This Sunday and April 7, 14, or 21, there will be friendly helpful people at the Pledge Booth in Fellowship Hall after each service, with pledge cards already labeled with your name if you made a pledge last year. There will also be pledge cards in the orders of service for your convenience.

Women's Alliance Meets April 4
Kristin Bishay, Executive Director of Monroe County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) will speak about what's happening at the agency and with kids in our community at the Women's Alliance program from 12:00-12:30 on Thursday, April 4. Join us at 11:30 am in Fellowship Hall with a brown bag lunch. The presentation begins at noon, followed by a brief business meeting. The
hostesses for the month, Karen Cassidy and Katherine Hopkins, will provide drinks and dessert. Everyone is welcome, including women, men, and gender non-binary persons.

Hatha Yoga Class with Kate Mulligan
5:30-7:00 pm, Tuesdays thru April 30
in the Library
A gentle hatha yoga practice to balance the mind, body, and spirit. Includes: warm up and gentle asanas (yoga poses) for strength, flexibility, and relaxation along with breath work and guided meditation. Kate holds a 500 hour yoga teacher certificate from the Institute of Holistic Yoga. You may join the class at any time. Please bring a yoga mat or large size bath towel. Join us April 14th for an IU baseball game!
Help us represent the UU Church on April 14th at the 3rd annual Faith and Family Day at Bart Kaufman Field. Everyone is welcome to attend, and the church will buy your ticket. If you'd like to purchase food vouchers ($5 for an entree and a drink), they are the only thing you would need to pay for.

Because we have shifted the rhythm of our work week to hold our weekly staff meeting on Thursdays now, we encourage everyone to send us information for the order of service by 9:00 am on Thursdays. Deadline for info to be included in the Friday Update is also now due by 9:00 am on Thursdays.

livestream on our website. At the church we also have screens set up in the nursery (Room 104) and in Fellowship Hall, if you need to leave the Meeting Room for any reason but still want to watch the service.
