Where did a year go? I find it so hard to believe that what seemed like such a long road ahead is coming to an end this month. I recall hiding under the eaves of the Revere rooftop last July as we kicked off the new year with a little thunder and lightning storm.
The telling part of that memory is not that we weathered the storm, it’s not that our sponsor worked tirelessly to continue the party – the real story is that most of the crowd stayed through the rain and continued the networking once it had passed. That one little event has become a metaphor for this year.
When I think about my time as President in the aggregate I’m utterly awestruck by the number of professionals it is now my honor to have worked with, worked for and worked alongside in the mission to enhance, engage and enrich every member’s experience.
It has quite literally been one of the greatest honors of my professional life to lead the chapter this year, I very much hope you’ll join us on June 20
th
as I pass the baton to Bryan Lavin, who is going to elevate this chapter and your leadership team to do amazing things. Thank you so much for the endless support each of you has provided me along this journey; it has been my safety net on many occasions and I can’t wait to see what comes next!

A Little Gratitude Goes A Long Way
|
|
By Robbie Samuels, Professional Speaker, Podcast Host, Coach
When an event runs smoothly participants don’t notice all the time, money, and effort invested behind-the-scenes to create a great experience. The same is true when an association runs smoothly. This is why once a year, we gather to recognize the many, many people who are hard at work throughout the year keeping this chapter going strong.
While no one does more than their share to be recognized, being appreciative of their efforts would leave a lasting impression and inspire them to keep going.
Awards ceremonies are one way to do this, but there are smaller acknowledgments that can take place throughout the year with a lot less fanfare.
Become a person who regularly goes out of their way to recognize other people’s contributions. The goodwill created from these small gestures will have an impact on your life in countless unexpected ways. View the world through a lens of gratitude and you’ll always be on the lookout to catch someone doing something great. That is a gift that keeps on giving.

Add the Unexpected to your Awards Program
|
|
By Carolyn Browning, CMP, CMM, HMCC
When you think of awards ceremonies, what comes to mind? Long speeches, an endless procession of winners, interrupting your meal, same old same old?
While most of us don’t have the budget for big splashy productions, we can use our creativity to add some unexpected elements to make it fun! Here are examples from two recent programs I attended that did just that.

Deb Stark
Marketing Manager, Americas
Charles River Development
Deb Stark has been a Planner Member of MPI since 2005 and valued contributor to our chapter on multiple committees including the Educational Institutes and the Nominations Committee. I recently asked Deb about her volunteer experience and why she continues to invest her time.
I am a strong believer in the old adage that actions speak louder than words. Therefore, throughout my career I have volunteered for organizations including: American Business Women’s Association (ABWA), Women in Technology International (WITI), Peak Resorts Mountain Ambassador Program, Berry Bay Association of NH, and more. If you find value in the organization, then everything you do to improve the organization is worthwhile. Again, if you gain from the relationships you are building, then the time you spend (actions) will speak louder than words (oh so many emails).
I first starting going to MPI NE in 2016 and was warmly welcomed which encouraged me to listen closely to the mission and in turn the various committee pleas for assistance. I agreed to work on the annual awards program and now the 2018 Fall Institute. I certainly have established better relationships and industry connections by serving in these capacities. I look forward to bringing new ideas to the table and providing every member more opportunity and subsequent moments to remember.
