Battle of Bound Brook headlines Living History weekend
Visit life in 1777 central New Jersey as the American Revolution comes alive in Somerset County on April 13 and 14! Living historians will reenact the Battle of Bound Brook, 242 years after the original surprise attack of British Crown troops on a small American garrison. While the Abraham Staats House in South Bound Brook is the base of operations, several nearby locations and community groups join in, too.
Throughout the weekend, costumed reenactors will portray typical Revolutionary War soldiers and army life. Visit British and American camps to learn how soldiers prepared for battle, have breakfast with the troops, dance the night away Colonial-style at the Van Horne House in Bridgewater, and more. Tour the Staats House, headquarters to General von Steuben during the Middlebrook Encampment, and hear author Robert Mayers' lecture based on his book "The Bloody Battle of Bound Brook- A Humiliating American Defeat or a Courageous Stand by Outnumbered Patriots?"

Crossroads Annual Meeting highlights progress
More than 50 friends of New Jersey history attended Crossroads' annual meeting at Thomas Edison State University on March 27 to learn more about the organization's 2018 projects and successes. Board Chair Ira Jersey and Executive Director Janice Selinger also reviewed ongoing work toward commemorations of the 250th anniversary of American independence, including a historic sites needs assessment and fundraising goals.
New Jersey Historical Commission Chair Dr. Maxine Lurie highlighted planned work on U.S. history curricula in the state's schools in advance of the 250th anniversary. She noted opportunities to engage diverse communities in our shared heritage and shared findings from her research on the divided loyalties of Revolutionary-era New Jerseyans.
Before the meeting, the Crossroads board elected four new trustees and re-elected eligible trustees to new terms. New trustees include Steve Ayscue, Amy Cradic, Jeff Kaszerman and Victoria Magliacane, while trustees reelected to new three-year terms include John Hardiman, Chris Paladino and Laura Szwak. The board also expressed its gratitude to retiring trustees Linda Kellner and Pat Ryan.

Next 250th Information Meeting at Morristown NHP on April 30
Members of New Jersey's history and heritage community are invited to join Crossroads and the New Jersey Historical Commission on April 30 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. for the next update session on planning for New Jersey's celebration of the 250th anniversary of the United States.
This in-person meeting will take place at Washington's Headquarters Museum at Morristown National Historical Park, 30 Washington Place in Morristown.
More information will be available on the Crossroads website as the date approaches.

Registration approaching for Spring Professional Development workshop
Lifestyles, social classes and customs are on the agenda for the next Crossroads professional development conference on May 15 at Howell Living History Farm in Hopewell Twp. It's the latest in our series of workshops to help our Heritage Partners present authentic Revolutionary-era experiences to visitors.
"A Day in the Life of..." will feature farming life, with a keynote speech on the roles of men, women and children on the farm, presented by Cameron Green, formerly of Great Hopes Plantation in Williamsburg. Workshops will include a hands-on field plowing demonstration, English country dancing, 18th century hygiene and colonial-era courtship. We'll also learn about colonial-era crime and punishment.

Grand Encampment at Morristown NHP in Morristown
April 6 and 7 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Meet the troops as reenactor Continental soldiers and 18th century civilians return to Jockey Hollow to recreate camp life during the American Revolution. Troops drill and compete in period games, cook, repair clothing and demonstrate artillery.

Spring Open House and Re-enactment Weekend at the Gabreil Daveis Tavern in Glendora
