Bicycle Friendly Campgrounds
New Criteria - New Icon
While roofed accommodations have all the comforts of home, when bike touring we know that camping is popular with cyclists. In a recent survey we found that:
-

81% visited a campground with their bike 2 or more times over the past 2 years
- 94% had a strong interest in visiting campgrounds with bicycles in the future
- 72% classified themselves as 'self-supported' cyclists
- While 77% responded that all, if not most, of their needs were met when visiting campgrounds, we did receive a range of comments and suggestions for some improvements
The primary purpose of the survey was to assess the criteria for our bicycle friendly campground certification. Based on the results, we have updated the criteria and also added a new campground icon,
separating those listings
from the larger accommodation category, which is now intended for roofed accommodations only.
Thank you to all who completed the survey when open fall 2017. We have since shared the information with a number of interested partners including Ontario Provincial Parks and Parks Canada.

While distance and difficulty certainly play a key factor in which routes we conquer, sometimes decisions are made easier by the types of things we're able to do and see on a route.
