PTSA NEWS
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Hello Everyone,

There's a lot going on now and into the next month. Some upcoming highlights:

  • PTSA has been working with the administration to      provide additional days for Back to Business. We were concerned about working parents, students' camps, and vacations going on in August and how this impacts students getting ready for school. So we brought this concern to administration. We will be having the main back to business on August 15th from 8:00 am - 2:00 pm. All traditional back to business can be done on that date. The additional dates are August 21st, 9:00 am - 11:00 am and August 22nd, 5:00 pm -7:00 pm. All traditional business can be done on these days except for a photographer will not be present. ISPTSA is listening to you and working for you.

  • Hats off to IS. We are having our IS community celebration and fundraiser on Friday, May 18th. Please mark your calendar for this fun but casual event. As shown in the Tripod, fundraising and participation along with membership support our IS community. Please show your support by coming to this event and helping us raise funds.

  • May 5th we are having a Campus Improvement day.  As a model of our very successful day last year, this is a community day to meet and "clean up the campus". In addition, we will be putting up the shades in the classroom doors that Minal Shah is leading the creation of. Stayed tuned for more information in the next Monday Messenger.

As a final note, community is more than just getting memberships. When people signed up to be members, they briefly stepped into the spotlight. I and the PTSA board and every parent and teacher and student briefly said, "Hi, glad to meet you." I certainly am and I challenge you to ask me at the May 18 th event if I know you. I think I will surprise you that I do.

Best

MAKE A BIG IMPACT THIS YEAR AT 'SPRING FOR SCHOOLS'

We need you...show your support for high quality public education at Spring for Schools.

You can make a difference by joining Bellevue Schools Foundation for its 30th Annual Spring for Schools Benefit Luncheon at the Bellevue Hyatt Regency on Friday, April 27. When you do, you'll enjoy a delicious lunch, an inspiring program, and a unique opportunity to learn more about how you can contribute to help us make dreams come true for students in Bellevue.

Together, we create a better future for our children and our community! Founded in 1979, Bellevue Schools Foundation brings together parents, teachers, businesses, and community leaders to develop, promote, and fund the best possible learning opportunities for all students in Bellevue's public schools. Did you know there's still a significant gap between the basic funding provided by the state and what our students need and deserve? Together, we can bridge that gap. Each year, the Foundation family funds more than $1 million in programming, ensuring our children have access to high quality education.

Please register at the ISPTSA Community table (Meribeth Nordloef-Pedersen is the table captain) and join us on April 27 as we celebrate 30 years of our signature event with Honorary Chair Robbie Bach and Emcee Joyce Taylor.

SCHOOL NEWS
MIDDLE SCHOOL SOCIAL - FRIDAY, APRIL 20TH AT 7:00 PM

Hi International (Middle) School Families,

There is a Middle School Social at school this Friday, April 20th from 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm. Tickets are $5 with ASB ($8 without) and are on sale in the main office until the end of lunch on Friday. After that, they can be purchased at the door for $8. (We do not allow outside guests for Socials.)

The theme is "Spring!" so encourage your student to get out of their winter clothes and dress as if it's sunnier. There will be a DJ for dancing, snacks, fun contests and games available to play in the gym.

In order for this to happen, we could use your help as a Chaperone. Chaperones help sell tickets, "watch" the doors, serve snacks, provide general supervision and pretty much help out! If you have the time, are curious about middle school social lives or simply have a questions, please contact Carol Anne Yamamoto (ASB Advisor for Middle School) at  yamamotoca@bsd405.org.

HURRICANE HARVEY DONATION DRIVE RESULTS

Hi IS Families,

You may or may not remember, but last fall, the ASB held a Hurricane Harvey Donation Drive collecting clothes and school supplies for victims of Hurricane Harvey at Jane Long Academy in Texas, a school 6-12th grade just like International. After sending the donations, Jane Long replied with a letter and photos showing their gratitude for the donations. If you have the time, the ASB encourages you to take a few moments to read the letter, especially if you donated. The ASB would also like to give a HUGE thank you to all the families who donated clothes or school supplies - they truly made a difference for students and families in need.

Sincerely,
International School ASB 2017-2018
