Kids Day Breaks New Record!
Kids Day Raises More Than $634,000

The 32 nd annual Kids Day benefiting Valley Children's Hospital surpassed its $625,000 fundraising goal with a record-breaking $634,301. More than 8,000 volunteers from more than 20 communities braved the rain and hit the streets on Tuesday, March 5, throughout Central California to sell special Kids Day editions of The Fresno Bee for a suggested donation of $1 each.

"On behalf of the Valley Children's family, I want to express my gratitude to everyone who came out in support of Kids Day," Valley Children's Foundation President Rob Saroyan said. "The outpouring of volunteer and community support is a reminder of the spirit of service that inspires us to give our very best for the children of the Valley."

The event, held annually since 1988 in partnership with The Fresno Bee and ABC30, raises funds to support the Children's Fund, which enables Valley Children's to invest in the most immediate needs improving the lives of patients and their families.

Balloon Donation
We received a very generous donation from Leah and Madilyn. The two girls made and sold balloon animals to benefit Valley Children's and raised $64. We are so grateful to both girls for their hard work to help support the ill and injured children served at Valley Children's. Below is a copy of the letter that accompanied their donation.

Cystic Fibrosis Foundation Awards Two New Outpatient Clinical Services Grants to Valley Children's
We are happy to announce that Valley Children's and the Cystic Fibrosis (CF) Center have been awarded two new outpatient clinical services grants totaling $191,159!   The Cystic Fibrosis Center at Valley Children's Hospital provides care for 176 patients ranging in age from birth to 21 years of age. Currently, our CF team consists of a physician, nurse, dietician, social worker, psychologist, respiratory care therapist, research coordinator, and pharmacist.

These new grants will assist our CF Center with the expansion of the clinical team to add a pharmacy technician and a physical therapist position.  This collaborative effort between the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and the Valley Children's team will allow us to reach a new level of excellence at our Center and bring our best to the families that we serve.

Children's Miracle Network Hospital's Children's Hospitals Week
Valley Children's Hospital participated in the annual #ChildrensHospitalsWeek, conference from March 18-24, 2019, in Orlando, FL. The purpose of Children's Hospitals Week is to shine a light on the importance of specialized, high quality pediatric healthcare and to help Children's Miracle Network (CMN) member hospitals raise funds.

Children's hospitals like Valley Children's rely on donations because government and insurance programs do not cover the full cost of caring for kids. Donations fill that funding gap in pediatric health care, providing for advanced-technology equipment, specialized services/treatments, medical research and charitable care. Kids Day Art Contest Winner
This year, Valley Children's Healthcare Foundation hosted the 2019 Kids Day Art Contest. We asked for pictures of George, a favorite Valley Children's experience or a fun Kids Day activity. We received many great entries from children in our community!

The winner this year is nine-year-old Cooper. Congratulations, Cooper, for winning the contest and for being such a great artist!

Good Fellows
At a recent Good Fellows lunch, John Salenik, a longtime supporter of both Good Fellows and Valley Children's, witnessed an act of kindness that he will not soon forget.

As a part of the event, a ride in Valley Children's Hospital's helicopter, Air George, was auctioned off. Tom Tsaris had the winning bid, but instead of accepting his prize, Tom chose to give the ride away. 11-year-old Macky and his father, Macky Sr., were gifted the ride, along with 20-year-old Parker Fritsch and his father.

Parker is a survivor of a rare form of cancer, the driving force behind Parker's Pals Blood Drive and volunteers in many ways at Valley Children's. Parker is an artist and has sold many of his paintings, donating the proceeds to the Valley Children's Childhood Cancer Survivorship Program. Macky visits Valley Children's Endocrinology Practice and receives treatment for his hypothyroidism.

While the group of four has yet to enjoy the memorable ride in Air George, John Salenik has a memory he will not forget. "At a time of so much social animus, this act of kindness reaffirms there is still goodness in our world and there are indeed futures worth fighting for," says John.
