Tim Conrad, APR and Emily Epp Receive Canadian Public Relations Society's Shield of Public Service

CHARLOTTETOWN
May 29, 2018 /CNW/ - The Canadian Public Relations Society (CPRS) awarded Tim Conrad, APR and Emily Epp the 2018 CPRS Shield of Public Service for their valiant communications efforts surrounding the 2017 B.C. wildfires.

Tim Conrad, APR and Emily Epp accepting the 2018 CPRS Sheild of Public Service from CPRS National President Dana Dean, APR, FCPRS LM (CNW Group/Canadian Public Relations Society)
Throughout the Cariboo Regional District's eleven-week emergency response, the pair worked exceedingly long hours for an extended period to ensure the public was well-informed of evacuation orders and alert changes. Following the disaster, they remained committed to the cause and launched a six-week public consultation to evaluate the emergency response, comprising 24 meetings throughout the 83,000 square kilometre region.

During the May 28th award presentation at  Connexions 2018, Epp and Conrad were praised for their tireless efforts over the course of the 77-day response to the largest fire in the province's history, which destroyed nearly 900,000 hectares of land and affected 60 per cent of the population.

"I am humbled to receive the Shield of Public Service from the Canadian Public Relations Society," said Conrad. "This is a rare honour and is shared with the many people who have supported me over the last 20 years, especially my family, friends, and those who race from or embrace disasters."

"Thank you to CPRS for choosing us to receive this year's Shield of Public Service. Last summer was an extremely challenging wildfire season for the Cariboo Regional District, but the Cariboo is a resilient place and I am honoured that I was able to serve my community during the emergency response and recovery process. I am deeply touched to be recognized by my fellow CPRS members for my service and want to acknowledge the tremendous efforts of my entire information team as well," added Epp.

The award is presented to CPRS members for distinguished and dedicated service in the public interest, over and above what is required by client or employer. Like Conrad and Epp, Shield of Public Service recipients have demonstrated unselfish, outstanding and persistent dedication to the cause or movement far beyond the call of duty.

Crews are expected to move into the intersection of 100 Avenue and 102 Street in the second half of June. This will result in a change to traffic flow and detours.

Join us on Tuesday, June 19 for "Coffee and Construction" in preparation of the intersection closure.  A short presentation will take place at 8:30 am, and city representatives, contractor, and consultant will be present to answer any project related questions.
