Note from the Commission Chair
Vol 2, Issue 5
April 1, 2019
Dear Colleagues,

Spring has officially begun! As April arrives we are reminded of the important role we play in supporting military-connected students. The Month of the Military Child allows our communities to show their appreciation for those students who sacrifice so much in support of their families as they serve this country.

Many of you are holding events to celebrate this month. Please share your stories, photos, and videos with the National Office to showcase what your state is doing. If you need ideas for celebrating military-connected students, check out the toolkit at this link: http://mic3.net/motmc.html

There are a couple other items I’d like to bring to your attention:

State Coordination: In accordance with the State Coordination Policy , member states are required to submit the following information to the National Office:
  • State Council membership roster
  • Identify and/or confirm at least two points of contact for the member state. E.g. State Commissioner, Military Family Education Liaison, State Department of Education, etc.
  • Summary of accomplishments, activities and presentations for the previous year

Please forward your state’s annual report and supporting documentation to the National Office at mic3info@csg.org by Sunday, June 30, 2019.

Executive Committee Retreat: The Committee will meet April 17-18 in Lexington, Kentucky for our annual spring retreat. The Committee will focus on the formulation of a new three-year Strategic Plan which will be presented to the Commission in October, at the Annual Business Meeting for discussion and approval. I encourage you all to share any suggestions you may have with your standing committee chairs by April 15 for discussion at the spring meeting.

As always, thank you for all you do to support military-connected students. It’s an honor to serve with you.

Respectfully,

John I. “Don” Kaminar
Chairman (AR)
