   Teacher of the Year
Melody Lundy

Being a caring, organized, and overall great teacher earned 8th grade US History teacher Melody Lundy Teacher of the Year for Carroll Middle School. This honor came from her peers, who voted for her.

After teaching high school for several years, Melody Lundy decided to make a change about six years ago.  At that time, she became a middle school teacher and the students are better because of it.

Lundy graduated from West Texas A&M University with her degree in teaching.

"I became a teacher because I had an amazing group of high school teachers that not only taught me the curriculum, but taught me that education is the foundation for all success in life," Lundy said.

Her teaching style keeps students wanting to learn about history.  Not only does she tutor students in her subject, she also tutors in other subjects as well.

"My favorite part of teaching is watching the students become more engaged in learning and seeing their eyes light up when a concept is mastered," she said.

In her spare time, she loves to read.  Reading between 400-500 words per minute.  She also loves to travel and spend time with her family.
Employee of the Month
Anthony Van Buskirk
The March Employee of the Month is health teacher and boys coach Anthony Van Buskirk.   After graduating from Texas State University, Van Buskirk came to work at Carroll.  He is in his fourth year.

His fellow co-workers thought he deserved it because of his willingness to help whenever something needs done, even without being asked.  More importantly, he cares about the well-being of the students.

"I became a teacher to build relationships with students, while pushing them to the best of their abilities," Van Buskirk said.

After teaching Texas History for two years, Van Buskirk changed classrooms and now teaches health along with his coaching duties.

"My favorite part of teaching is the daily interaction with the children, and seeing them progress and grow," he said.

In his spare time, he enjoys watching the Dallas Cowboys, Dallas Mavericks, and New York Yankees.  He also is into wellness and exercise.

STAAR testing for our students will be April 9-10.

International Festival

We are seeking parent volunteers to help with the 1st Annual CMS International Festival on May 17.

Our goal is to provide our students the opportunity to gain a better understanding about different cultures through a variety of educational experiences.  In order for this program to be successful, we need many parent and community volunteers.  We want to have as many different cultures/heritages as possible represented for our students.

For more information on the International Festival, and how you might help, please click here  CMS International Festival.

Academic UIL earns 2nd Place
Congratulations to the students and coaches who spent countless hours preparing for the Academic UIL competition held on March 23 at Tidwell Middle School in Roanoke.

The students competed against the Northwest ISD Middle Schools as well as Dawson.  They placed 2nd, only seven points behind Dawson.  Some students even stepped in at the last minutes so that we would have someone competing and ended up placing which attributed to the 2nd place finish.

The Office
Cell Phone Use in School Zones

State of Texas traffic laws are enforceable in school zones as well. Please remember to be hands free while on the phone this includes texting.

If you have complaints or concerns, please contact Officer Roberson 817-949-5414.

Traffic
There have been several complaints about vehicles turning in front of waiting vehicles on Kirkwood Blvd. before or after school.
The far right lane must continue straight and not turn in front of vehicles waiting to the left trying to turn to get into the drop off / pick up line.

Remember from drivers ed - two lines that intersect have a point of impact. Officers will be issuing citations for this violation.
If you are needing to park in the parking lot you must either wait or turn in the parking lot from the east side traveling west.

Any questions on this please contact Officer Roberson 817-949-5414

Laptop Covers
We still have hard-shell laptop covers (green only) available for purchase for $20.
Please see Mrs. Gulliver or Mrs. Brett in the front office to purchase one.

Dress Code Reminders:

If she wears shorts, a dress or a skirt, these items must be at least knuckle length.

Thank you for helping our students follow the district dress code.

Please review the full Dress Code in the Student Handbook.
