Goats at the Market!
The Brainerd Market will host some visiting dignitaries on Saturday, June 17 – Dixie Does Alpines and Dixie Soaps are bringing the goats whose milk allows them to create their wonderful soaps and edibles. There will be a goat-milking demonstration at 11 a.m., and visitors are invited to sample goat’s milk and cheeses, and fudge as well! Come meet the people and the critters and learn about goats and the benefits they provide us. Look for the Dixie-goats in the far back corner of the parking lot.

The Market runs from 10a.m.to 12 p.m. on Saturdays in the Brainerd Road parking lot. Local farmers and artisans bring fresh produce, eggs, meats, and crafts to sell. Debit cards are welcome, and double SNAP benefits are offered each week.

Sunday Book Review
Join us this Sunday as Dave Stanislawski reviews Leaders Eat Last: Why Some Teams Pull Together and Others Don’t by Simon Sinek.

Robert Hall, in his review of the book comments as follows: Simon Sinek’s newest book, Leaders Eat Last, is inspiring and thought-provoking, in part because he uses so many relatable, nonbusiness metaphors to illustrate his message — military protocol, parenthood, news stories, and even the evolutionary development of our own minds and bodies. He writes at length about powerful and historical forces that have not only shaped our culture as a whole, but that also reign influence on our actions and interactions as individuals. Forces like needing to feel safe, wanting to belong, survival instincts, cataclysmic events, addiction, generational divides, and our own physiologies have tremendous impact on our professional work ethic, too.

I hope you will join us as we look at leadership and how it applies not just to business but to how we conduct ourselves as church.

The class begins at 9:30 a.m. in the Merritt Room. Coffee and doughnuts will be available in the third floor kitchen for those in need of sustenance.

Next week (June 24), when the summer schedule’s single 10:00 a.m. liturgy begins, the Book Review class will begin at 9:00 a.m.
The Rev. Zack Nyein Accepts New Call
Dear People of Grace,

I write you today with some bittersweet news: I have accepted a new call to serve as an Associate Rector at  All Saints’ Episcopal Church   in Atlanta. My last Sunday at Grace will be August 12.  Until then, we will have many more opportunities for laughter, fellowship, and celebration, so let us savor our remaining time together!

Michael and I would like to express our heartfelt thanks for the warmth and love shown to us over the course of these past two years. Grace has been a wonderfully vibrant congregation for me to live into my priesthood and the perfect community for Michael and me to have grown into our marriage and life together. We are deeply grateful for the spirit of generosity, hospitality, and welcome that is so very real in this place.

Just as we have grown as individuals, so too has Grace Church grown as a community -- in faith and in resilience. Since my arrival, we have welcomed and bid farewell to a number of staff, and we have brought many newcomers into the fold. All the while, it has been a privilege to walk with you as we have carried on doing the things Christians do: baptizing and burying, preaching and teaching, healing and feeding; proclaiming Christ crucified and risen reigning over it all.

Indeed, among the "swift and varied changes" of our mortal life, to quote the prayer book, we have learned during this season of vast transition -- at our best -- to lean ever deeper into the trust and care of one another and of our Lord, whose loving presence remains the same yesterday, today, and forever. I believe we are a stronger and more faithful body for it.

I will carry the lessons learned here into the next phase of my ministry, and I will always hold Grace Church dear in my heart.  You were my first parish, and you are a tremendously special parish. Whether through the gardens, music and liturgy, or the joyful sounds of refugee women making art on a Friday morning, my vocation has been and will continue to be formed by your commitment to being good stewards of all things bright and beautiful. Likewise, until proven otherwise, I will continue to remember and speak of Grace's youth group as the most thoughtful and sincere group of teenagers the world has ever known!

With the wealth of talent and vision in this community, and with April’s leadership, I look forward to hearing about where the Holy Spirit leads you as you continue carrying the Good News of God’s healing, compassion, and justice into the homes and streets of this Scenic City and beyond. You are poised for great things.

April and I will be working on a transition and succession plan over the next couple months to ensure that our youth program, digital communications, Grace Speaks, and other ministries continue running smoothly.  Please rest assured of my prayers and fondness for you, and if you find yourself in Atlanta, please come and see us at All Saints’.

Yours in Grace,

Zack
From the Rector...
Dear People of Grace,

Like many of you, I receive this news from Zack with a mix of sadness, hope and gratitude. He has helped lead Grace through a time of much transition, and he has been a gracious and helpful colleague to me in my first six months here at Grace. I am thankful for the energy and joyfulness that he has brought to his ministry among us.

I have been in touch with the diocese, and I look forward to passing along their guidance and to discussing next steps with our vestry at our next meeting on Tuesday, June 19th. In the meantime, Zack and I are working to gather information and steward the connections and relationships specific to his areas of ministry here at Grace so that we can ensure a smooth transition.

We will have time to say goodbye to both Zack and Michael, who has shared so many gifts of his own with the community of Grace, but in the meantime, let's celebrate their wedding with joyful hearts.

Brightest blessings,

April
Gardens and Grounds -- Calling the Swarm for 6-20
(and Benches!)
1. As a wedding gift to Michael and Zack, Grace Gardeners will offer the greatest gift: time and work. We are hosting a 'Garden Swarm' to clean up the Courtyard and whatever else we manage on Wednesday evening, 20 June, at 6:30 pm. ALL ARE WELCOME. We will stop no later than 8:00 pm for refreshment in the Pavilion (bring a drink!). You don't have RSVP nor be an experienced gardener to help at these pop- up events: we will steer you into the straight and narrow way! Bring: gloves, hand tools.

2. The materials for the stone benches have arrived and they should be installed along the West Sidewalk next week.

Nyein-Waterson Wedding, Accompanying Festivities –
and Parking!
The countdown is on for the wedding of the year (eat your hearts out, Harry and Meghan!) – Zack Nyein and Michael Waterson will marry at Grace on Saturday, June 23 at 11 am. Grace parishioners are all invited!

Part of their extended celebration will be an organ recital by Jake Street , their wedding organist, on Thursday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. The recital will be followed by a reception in the courtyard (wine, cheese, and desserts), and all parishioners are invited to come enjoy the music and celebrate with Zack and Michael afterwards.

When the day of the wedding arrives, please be aware that the Brainerd Market will be in the middle of its Saturday session in the Brainerd Road parking lot when the ceremony begins at 11 a.m. Some parking will be available in the Sunbeam lot; you may also park along the streets in the neighborhood as long as you don’t encroach on people’s lawns or block driveways. There are usually a good many places free next to Brainerd Road in the Food City lot, and there are lots of spaces on Tuxedo Avenue (across the street and a stone’s throw east of Grace at Kandy Kastle Day Care/Hope City Church (across Tuxedo from Ponder’s Funeral Home). Carpooling will also help!
Family Promise Week
Grace will next host Family Promise during the first two weeks of July. The most current intel has us providing dinner and overnight hosts for Thursday and Friday of those weeks. We will also provide breakfast those two Saturdays, transportation as needed, and help with the move to the next location. If you’d like to help with any of these needs, contact Skeeter Makepeace at skeeterellen55@gmail.com .
Planned Giving Informational Meeting
You are invited to “A Conversation about Planned Giving,” hosted by the Planned Giving Committee on Sunday, July 8th. We will convene in the Undercroft immediately following the 10 AM service for light refreshments and a presentation by Justin Bolinger and Phaen Stone, Co-Chairs of the Planned Giving Committee. We will provide information on creating your will, medical directives, healthcare proxies and even funeral planning. We will also review how you can help Grace Church to fund future ministries (such as leaving a bequest for the church in your will).
