LPA Core Value #5: World evangelism

From Lake Wylie to Guatemala... with love!

Packing for children's gifts now

Packing suitcases later for a visit

Secondary students worked with elementary student partners to pack Christmas gift packages for children in Guatemala a week ago.

The annual joint school Friday afternoon service project was the culmination of weeks of gathering supplies and planning. Over two hundred packages were packed -- more than enough for each LPA student -- and a record quantity for the project that has been undertaken for several years.

This year, for the first time, secondary students, staff, and parents will travel to Guatemala to visit and serve the areas that have benefited from the gift bags. About thirty people are registered to fly to Guatemala during spring break.

Help us to avoid nuts

One of our elementary students is dangerously allergic to nuts of all kind.
Elementary parents, as you pack snacks and lunches, please remember to keep the peanut butter, Nutella, and snacks with nuts home for the other days' meals. Our snack machine is stocked with nut-free items. Thank you!

Welcome, Mr. Enniss!

Helping Mr. Miller and Mr. Shaw with elementary recess group sports and recreation is Mr. Elias Enniss, known to secondary students as the boys' soccer team goalkeeper coach and assistant basketball coach. A few things to know about Mr. Ennniss:
  • He attended LPA as a student years ago, as did his sister and brother
  • A graduate of North Greenville University, he earned a degree in sports management
  • While at NGU, he played goalkeeper on the soccer team
  • Mr. Enniss did not play soccer at LPA -- only because there was no soccer team then
Best cola? That's debatable!

Lake Pointe instructors used the Coke-Pepsi battle as an example to demonstrate the finer points of the Lincoln-Douglas debate format. Secondary students will use the L-D approach to build values arguments for their teams in the annual fall history debates in two weeks. The Friday, Nov. 15 events help students to learn history more deeply, and to gain experience in both logic and speech once each year for the six years of junior high and high school.

Teachers paved the way with examples from the cola wars, and then students have been researching evidence to support their points.

  • Several racers posted personal fastest times.

  • Jeremiah Chapman finished in first place for the boys' team.

  • The girls' team came in 3rd place, against strong competition.

Of course they're smiling. The race is run and won, and the trophy sits in a comfortable booth at the luncheon after the race. Well done!

Volleyball team captures 4th in the state tournament

Holding court in the post-season

Starting with the initial play-off game, the Lady Mariners were determined to make the post-season count.
The girls' varsity volleyball team not only made it to the state tournament again this season, the team made it to its highest level ever.
After pulling out a victory in a dogfight match to open the tournament, the players' determination led to a fourth place overall. Congratulations for the achievement!

Give 'em a hand!
State soccer champs; first time ever!

Reaching its goooaaaalllll!

Getting to the state tournament was three years in the making, but when the varsity boys' soccer team finally made the final four, the players made the opportunity count.

The Mariners won the semi-finals and the championship in Friday-Saturday matches at the Upward Center in Spartanburg.  Defeating Charleston's Northside Christian Friday set up a championship against a familiar foe. Co-conference champion, Spartanburg's Westgate Christian also defeated their coastal conference opponent, leaving just the two upstate teams. LPA had lost one regular season game to Westgate and then won the second. The rematch in the championship promised to be competitive, and the contest lived up to its billing. A tie of 2-2 exhausted the regular time, and two overtime periods were used until the Mariners scored the winning goal.

Congratulations, champs!
