Try Out Assistive Listening Devices

|
|
HLAA-CS Chapter is partnering with
Gleneagle Sertoma
again this year to offer the latest and greatest array of
devices and services at a single location for individuals experiencing hearing loss
.
This year's event will be held on Friday, May 11th from 10:30 am until 2 pm. at Library 21c (1175 Chapel Hills Drive) just north of Chapel Hills Mall.
We anticipate a wide variety of professional hearing health and hearing device providers to demonstrate and offer hands-on experience - have your ears checked for wax with a video otoscope, get an audiogram and hearing screening on the spot, and see a visual demonstration of how hearing aids work. All at no cost to you! We will even have representatives of International Hearing Dog.
Participate as a vendor for a product or service that benefits people with hearing loss, or come let us answer your questions! Need more information? Contact

May, a time for new beginnings! This month we will officially
elect chapter officers. We have a great slate of nominees with
Vickie Pacheco for President, Duane Gritzmaker for Vice President, Pauline Weiss for Secretary, and Michelle Lavelle for Treasurer. Each brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to their position. Since they are running uncontested, the voting
** on May 12th should be a confirmation and acceptance of their willingness to serve. Thanks to each of our candidates for stepping up to lead our chapter!
As I step down, I look back on many fond memories and satisfying experiences. They far outweigh the occasional wrinkles! I wish our future officers all the joys of leadership, and only as many challenges as they need to grow!
For me, I expect to continue to be an active chapter member. But it is time that I moved on and made room for others to man the helm of our chapter. Please extend to your new officers all the support and cooperation you have shown to me. I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with such a fine group!
I look forward to seeing where our chapter will go next and hope you will join us for the adventure!
Thanks to everyone. -
Ann

There is a 15 minute uncaptioned video and no assistive listening devices for the tour, but, let's do a little community education and advocacy by a bunch of us showing up and letting them know how helpful it would be to make that accommodation for the hearing loss community.
(PS: Vickie will share a couple ideas
using alternate means, and some ALD gear to help you hear. This will be a good opportunity to implement it and evaluate it. More details to come.)

The nation's largest nonprofit funder
for hearing and balance research
Our lab endeavors to define therapies to restore hearing and balance in mice that accurately model human forms of inner ear disease.
One of every 1,000 births produces a child with deafness, and about another two children out of 1,000 will be diagnosed with significant hearing loss within the first year of life. Our goal is to develop therapies to restore hearing and balance function at birth, or shortly thereafter. Read more here.

Patrick is a young man, first class athlete, who suddenly lost his hearing. And t

how he regained some of his hearing back. You will definitely want to hear his story!!
Patrick, four times Olympic trials qualifier, just selected by "The Runner Box" as Colorado Runner of the Month, and his story is quite amazing.

Dear Ann,
You've worked tirelessly for the Chapter for more than 6 years, beginning as a volunteer, then serving as a Board Member as Secretary, Vice President, and President, and as the Board's Chair for 4 of those years.
Under your leadership, our Chapter has achieved incredible success in Colorado Springs advancing HLAA's Mission of opening the world of communication to people with hearing loss. Your commitment and dedication have led us to pitch in on many projects which have led to real changes in people's lives.
We all agree that you've been an incredible President and it's been a real pleasure working with you. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
