This Sunday
Frequently when the worship leaders gather just before worship begins at Aldersgate, we pray to be surprised by the Holy Spirit in worship that morning. It might seem like an odd thing for a pastor to pray for. It might seem counter-intuitive that once we've established an order of worship and a plan for the day, that we would ask for it to be interrupted by a surprise. Yet, we've found that when we are open to the surprises that the Holy Spirit presents us, we are open to the movement of God through worship. This week, we'll look at the patterns of God's surprises in our world. We'll explore how the holy interruption is sometimes just what we need so that we can take a new look around and see God at work in our lives. Read Chapter 3 of Brian McLaren's book "We Make the Road by Walking" and John 1: 1-17 to prepare.

Reconciling Ministry Network
VOTE
Sunday, April 7 @ 10:00am Worship Service
You received an email last week Tuesday April 19 stating that the Considering Reconciling Committee (CRC) recommended, and the Core Leaders Team (CLT) approved, that Aldersgate should move forward and vote on whether to become members of the Reconciling Ministries Network (RMN). This vote will happen on Sunday, April 7 during one combined worship service at 10:00am. A similar letter was sent out last weekend this time by "snail" mail to be sure everyone got the message.
As expected there continues to be any number of questions around the upcoming decision about whether to join the Reconciling Ministry Network. In many cases there are deep feelings on all sides of the issues that under gird this decision. The CRC committee has recommended that there be additional gatherings to talk about all of it. T
here is one gathering remaining next week before the vote and that is on
Tuesday April 2 at 7:00pm
in Friendship Hall. This Common Table meeting is facilitated by Pastor Laura and Joe Lee (Core Leaders Team chairman). This will be the final opportunity to gather before the vote is taken on Sunday April 7 at 10:00am. All are welcome to attend. There is no agenda to this gathering other than seeking to provide answers to questions and opportunities to voice opinions, if you feel that might be necessary. Please let Pastor Brad, Pastor Laura, or Joe know if you have any questions. They are aware that the feelings around decisions like this can be raw. Please come together in prayer, in fasting, and with the attitudes that love lay at the foundation for all we do.
We want everyone who thinks of Aldersgate as their church home to be part of this process and to vote. Specifically, those who are eligible to vote are:

Members who attend worship

Members who are homebound or hospital bound
*
Anyone who gives financially to Aldersgate UMC
*
Anyone who gives of their time to Aldersgate UMC
*
Youth in 6th grade or above who are either active in the Aldersgate youth group or in some other ministry of Aldersgate UMC
*
College students who were active in ministries at Aldersgate and have not transferred their membership elsewhere
*
Active participants, as defined by self-report on attendance registers (to be used only in cases when nothing else applies)
If you are eligible to vote and you want to vote, but cannot be present on Sunday, April 7 during worship, then you can turn in your ballot early. Ballots will be available from one of the pastors starting on Sunday, March 31, for those unable to be present at the vote. Turn in your ballot at the Common Table meeting on Tuesday, April 2 or at the church office between 9:00am-2:00pm on April 3-5. You can also mail your ballot into the church office.
All ballots must be at church by the 10:00am worship service on April 7 to be counted in the vote.

UMCOR Offering

we will take a special offering to help fund the United Methodist Committee on Relief. UMCOR is a non-profit organization dedicated to alleviating human suffering around the globe. Their work reaches people in more thatn 80 countries, including he United States. UMCOR's work includes programs and projects in disaster response, health, sustainable agriculture, food security and relief supplies. Your generous gifts to UMCOR bring light out of darkness. Please give generously.

UMW Special Mission Award
The United Methodist Women (UMW) of Aldersgate are requesting nominations for the Special Mission Award. Any person in the church is eligible for this award based on service to the church and the community but special attention is given to those who participate in or support UMW and their mission projects. Aging in Place and Fall Prevention

Deborah Circle is pleased to invite you to hear Gretchen Stuenkel, Occupational Therapist, talk about aging in place and preventing falls, an important issue for all ages, on Monday,
April 1

Easter Fun
We will have the annual Easter Egg-Stavaganza, Tween Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt along with another Egg Hunt on Easter Sunday. These events are joy-filled times for our children, and families from the surrounding community come and join in on the fun. Your help is needed to make these events a big success so please sign up to volunteer or email Jen Hoerber.
- Volunteer at the Egg-Stravaganza on April 20 from 10:30am - Noon by staffing a craft or activity table, helping with refreshments, or leading a story.
- The Flashlight Egg Hunt will be held in conjunction with Club 345 and Youth Group on April 14. Dinner and festivities will be from 5:30 - 8pm.
- Come stuff Easter Eggs on Sunday, April 7 after worship and also on Wednesday, April 10 at 10:00am.
- Donations of small wrapped candy and toys are being accepted now through April 7. Look for a collection box in the narthex.

Reading Guide to Brian McLaren's Book
"We Make the Road by Walking"
During the coming seasons, many people from churches throughout the west will be reading chapters from Brian McLaren's book "We Make the Road by Walking". The chapters are intended to be read one per week.You may choose to read on a schedule that will coincide with themes in worship and the life of the church. Copies of the book are available for check-out from our church library or you may wish to order your own copy from Amazon or another online book seller.

Nominations for Jurisdictional Conference Delegates

In the United Methodist Church, Jurisdictional Conference is where bishops are elected and decisions about how to fill positions on general boards and agencies are made. Delegates for Jurisdictional Conference 2019 will be elected at Annual Conference in June, 2019 in Puyallup. by the Browder, Breske, Fenstermacher and Pearce families.
They will be sharing family stories and anecdotes while you dine on their favorite family dishes. The youth will be assisting and collecting tips for the Youth Group. In addition, a dessert auction will be held.
Cost is $30 per adult/youth or $15 per child 10 years old and younger.

Spring Yoga Class
Starts April 6
Everyone says they should be going to a yoga class. Let this be the day you actually do. Be a part of Aldersgate's yoga ministry! Vince Fratello will be teaching a Spring series at the most basic beginner level and it will be organized to accommodate all body types and physical abilities. Class 1 always starts at the beginning so don't worry. If you have any concerns, ask someone who has already come! The series will tentatively be ten Saturdays April 6, 20,27, May 4, 11, 25, and June 1, 8, 15, 29.
Class time will be 9:00-10:15am. Students will be asked to bring a sticky
yoga mat (ask if you are unsure) and Vince will supply the rest of the props. The cost will be $50 per student for the entire series to cover Vince's expenses-you can try out the first class with no financial commitment and scholarships are available if needed. Club 345 (3rd~4th~5th Grade)

Club 345 is open to all 3rd, 4th and 5th graders and meets once a month for dinner and a fun activity. The next meeting is Sunday, April 14. Volunteers are always needed to host the Club 345 activity or to provide the dinner. Please sign up on the CYF bulletin board by the church office.

UMW Spring Salad LUNCH

This year our salad event will be on Saturday, April 27th, at 12:00 noon. We wanted to bring you a very special program that is only available on Saturday. It is a fashion show of vintage clothing worn over the last one hundred years. Not only can we see the items up close with the wonderful fabrics and detail of past years, we will have a fun look at the history of changes in fashion. Seattle Children's Hospital benefits from the program. Bring your

Emerald City Ringers Concert

Save the date! The Church Family Mission Trip to Lazy F Camp will be over the Memorial Day weekend, Friday, May 24 through Sunday, May 26. There will be projects for all ages and abilities, including activities for kids 2-12.

Habitat for Humanity Lunch

Here is you chance to do something to ease the problem of housing for the homeless. The Habitat luncheon on March 28 is an opportunity the hear from someone who has benefited from Habitat's programs. The luncheon will be held at the Washington State Convention Center. A Showcase open house starts at 11:00am with the luncheon from 12:00 to 1:00pm. There will be rides from Aldersgate at 10:30am.
