From the CEO
Summer is upon us and so are the challenges of finding workforce.  Anyone with skills is already employed, and stealing labor from your competitor for a few more bucks is a short term solution.  We need you to play a role in building the next generation of construction workforce with us.  Through our many partnerships and programs we can help you identify talent, train that talent and even reduce your risk by subsidizing wages.  Please check out the workforce development update below and let us know how we can help.

Welcome and Thank you!
Workforce Development Update:

We all know with the warmer weather comes an uptick in construction activity. Do you have adequate workforce to meet the demands of your business? With a 4.9% unemployment rate, it gets harder and harder to fill your openings. For a leg-up on the competition, join us in Reno for an upcoming informational luncheon as we discuss our workforce development efforts and introduce you to solutions for your workforce shortage. Click here  for more information and to RSVP.

As we all know, the Nevada economy is moving forward in a big way and the construction industry is reaching a fever pitch. According to DETR, our industry has experienced the largest year-to-date employment gains. To see the numbers click here.

Do you have employees who would like to further their careers but need to obtain their High School Equivalency? Do you have non-English-speaking employees who could use some help learning English or obtaining American citizenship? If so, we have created this resource guide for you.

Here is an article you might find interesting.    Articles like this point out the challenges we face in our industry when it comes to developing a skilled workforce. But we are working every day to form partnerships and collaborations, dispel misconceptions and get the word out that construction is a valuable, rewarding and financially-rewarding career. Our collaborative effort, BuildNV.org, is the cornerstone of those efforts. But we need industry employers to get involved as well. Let us know your ideas and questions; tell us what you are looking for when hiring; offer to mentor, host a job shadow, or take on an intern; participate in a work experience program. We are making progress but we can't do it without you!

Stand-Down

National Fall Prevention Safety Stand-Down
Falls from elevation continue to be the leading cause of catastrophic injury for construction workers. A Safety Stand-Do  is a voluntary event for employers to speak directly with employees about safety. A Stand-Down can be held by taking a moment to focus on "Fall Hazards" and reinforcing the importance of "Fall Prevention". This is a great opportunity for employers to speak with employees about hazards, protective methods, and company safety policies. It is also a great opportunity for employees to discuss what they are seeing on job-sites.
Anyone can conduct a Safety Stand-Down by taking the time to hold a 5-minute safety talk or other activities such as equipment inspections, site hazard assessments, and fall rescue plans. Employers are encouraged to plan a Stand-Down that works best for their workplace anytime during the week of May 7th-11th.
Employers can provide feedback about their Stand-Down and download a certificate of participation following the stand down by visiting the Events Page on OSHA.gov.
PGM Safety Services recognizes the importance of this event and encourages all employers to participate. If you would like help in your efforts to participate in the National Fall Prevention Safety Stand-Down, Fall Protection Plan, Sight Fall Hazard Recognition Plan, or Sight Fall Rescue Plan, contact PGM Safety Services, an affiliate company of Pro Group Management, at PGMNV.com or call (800) 859-3177.
NBA Women's Council
would like your help to do some good in Northern Nevada. As always, our goal is to continue to raise scholarship funds for those entering the construction fields, and to give back to our community.  Our request concerns the latter.
Between now and Friday, May 18th
we will be collecting donations of excess building materials to donate to Truckee Meadows Habitat for Humanity, and building supplies in any amount are appreciated. Many may be utilized in Habitat's resale store, currently their largest source of funding. Understandably, Habitat is unable to collect all items, so please note the comprehensive list below:

Habitat for Humanity
Please contact your NBA Women's Council representatives (listed below) to schedule pickups, and we will do our best to accommodate your busy schedules, including weekends if necessary.  Your donations are tax-deductible, and forms will be provided.
We thank you in advance for continuing to support our local community.
