More tariff talk

By Jim Thompson

A respondent who wishes to remain anonymous suggested I was wrong last month when I said the tariff dust up would have little impact in the pulp and paper world.

Their concern?  Packaging, especially corrugated packaging.  They pointed out that depending on where goods are made, packaging demand could be affected in relatively significant ways.

For instance--move domestic water heater manufacturing from Mexico back to the United States and one could see a serious shift in corrugated consumption for this sector.

Others that may be affected are aftermarket auto parts, small electronics (think Foxconn's new factory in Wisconsin) and plumbing components.
