Here's a picture of students from Colorado High School Charter summiting Mount Bierstadt in 2015. As a class, students studied a novel called 'Peak,' where a young protagonist summits Mount Everest. Throughout the English Language Development unit, students learned important vocabulary by learning to rock climb at Denver Movement Rock Climbing Gym, and then our final exam was to summit our own mountain, Mount Bierstadt." -- Sadie May, South High School

National Teacher Appreciation Week May 7-11, including Teacher Appreciation Day on May 8 --

Don't Wait 'til the Last Minute: Complete Open Enrollment Now

Last week, Yronelly Diaz, a special education paraprofessional at Eagleton Elementary, won a $250 gift card for taking early action and completing Open Enrollment. Benefits-eligible team members have one last opportunity to win a $250 gift card next week;
complete Open Enrollment by Wednesday, May 9, and you'll be entered to win.
Open Enrollment is the one time each year that benefits-eligible team members can select, change or waive benefits -- and it ends May 11, so enroll in or waive benefits now!
If benefits-eligible employees do not take action, they will automatically be enrolled in DPS' lowest-cost medical plan. This is an active enrollment year, so action is required.

DoTS is Updating Our Firewalls in June
|
|
The Department of Technology Services (DoTS) will replace the firewalls that control access between DPS networks and the internet. The update will be made the week of June 11 and will include a new internet content filter for web browsing and other applications. Similar to the current process, you will continue to request access to a blocked website online, and InforSecurity or Google teams will respond to your request. Keep an eye on the DoTS page on The Commons for more information after the update.

Restorative Justice Coordinator, Colfax Elementary
"Carmen is a DPS alum -- and better yet, a Colfax Elementary alum. Carmen lives our Shared Core Value of Students First every day in her work as our Restorative Justice Coordinator.
She leads with empathy when meeting with and communicating with all stakeholders -- including students, staff and families -- to benefit the well-being of our students. Carmen learned every single student's name and developed a deep sense of trust with our students and their families by building strong relationships. You will often see her working through her lunch while supporting a student concern or their re-entry into a group. Carmen organizes and leads recess each day by facilitating student activities. She has had such an important role in creating a 'culture of celebration' at Colfax, leading the system of identifying and celebrating weekly core value winners and sharing student celebrations with our community. Carmen is the best there is!"
