TrueCare Treatment Centers collaborates with research entities within our community.
The Importance of Mental Health Research
By: Roxanne Lee, Director of Business Development
We all know someone with a mental health problem and can see how lives would be improved with better treatments and support and less stigma. Mental health research saves lives, relieves significant distress and improves quality of life. It also benefits the whole of our society by generating social and economic benefits that contribute to thriving communities built upon resilience, reduced levels of mental ill-health and less stigma and discrimination.

Doctors and healthcare professionals know a great deal about health, disease and treatments, but there are still some things that are unknown. Research can help find answers to things that are unknown, filling gaps in knowledge and changing the way that doctors and healthcare professionals deliver care.

This means that treatment, care and patients’ quality of life can be improved. We decided as a treatment center to collaborate however we could with community entities continuing to making a difference via their research endeavors. We have partnered with UNLV Neuropsychology research department and are helping them recruiting test subjects within the valley to further their studies on emotion regulations and other interesting topics.
TrueCare Treatment Centers values research and has for mission to bring light onto their efforts, into our community. It is through research that we can understand mental health better and find ways to prevent and treat mental health early on in a child or young person’s life.
It doesn’t matter how old you are, you can get involved in research at any age, and you don’t have to physically take part in a research study to make a difference.

The Neuropsychology Research Program is directed by Dr. Daniel Allen , and is designed to allow for the assessment of brain-behavior relationships using both clinical assessment procedures and neuroscience procedures. The program serves as a training site for doctoral candidates in the UNLV Psychology Departments Clinical or Applied Experimental doctoral programs who have specific neuropsychological or neuroscience interests.

Currently, Dr. Allen advises several doctoral students who use the facility on a regular basis. The clinical assessment component of the Neuropsychology Laboratory has the capability of administering the major comprehensive neuropsychological batteries (e.g., the Halstead-Reitan) as well as a number of specialized batteries including the tests of Arthur Benton and his group and various aphasia batteries.

The laboratory also performs functional assessments of cognitive abilities using such instruments as the Patient Assessment of Functioning Inventory and the Performance Assessment of Self-Care Skills. The laboratory has the hardware and software capacities to administer several of the recently developed computers tests (e.g., Wisconsin Card Sorting test, Stroop, CPT) and to use advanced computerized scoring systems...
