STATE GETS $160M FROM FEDS, OR $86 M LESS THAN SOUGHT, TO UPGRADE I-94 NEAR FOXCONN SITE

The state is getting $160 million in federal funds - though $86 million less than it requested - to expand U.S. Interstate 94 south of Milwaukee to aid plans for electronics maker Foxconn to locate in Wisconsin

Promega Corp., a Fitchburg biotechnology company that provides products for scientific research and DNA identification worldwide, is planning another big, new building on its growing campus: a 270,000-square-foot research and development center on East Cheryl Parkway, just east of the company's Feynman Center.

Even with legal questions about the future of the downtown project, Madison is moving forward to refine designs for the Judge Doyle Square project.

The original designs for Judge Doyle Square  sailed through the Madison Plan Commission in April 2017. During that meeting, commission chair Ken Opin said that while he believed the project was "the largest single application that has ever been before the Plan Commission," he considered it "a truly elegant solution to a truly complex set of problems."

The Madison Plan Commission on Monday voted in favor of a mixed-use development in the 700 block of East Johnson Street, despite the objections of the local neighborhood association and the area's representative on the City Council.

Madison's Finance Committee on Monday recommended $2.6 million in tax increment financing to fund a parking garage as part of Exact Sciences Corporation's office headquarters and innovation laboratory in University Research Park on the city's west side.

The Dane County Board will share plans and seek input for the Alliant Energy Center redevelopment at an open house next Tuesday. Residents can learn about the current uses and potential changes of the Alliant Center and share their thoughts on the project from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. June 19 at the Exhibition Hall's upstairs lounge.

Downtown Milwaukee's Schlitz Park office park has landed a major tenant - and is now fully leased. National General Insurance has agreed to lease 31,300 square feet in Schlitz Park's RiverCenter building, 1555 River Center Drive, co-developer Gary Grunau announced Wednesday.

A possible expansion of downtown Milwaukee's convention center now has slick renderings and refined cost estimates - but still no plan on how to pay for the project.The price tag for expanding the Wisconsin Center north to West Kilbourn Avenue has been revised to an estimated range of $247 million to $277 million, according to a report released Friday.

A proposal to develop affordable apartments on Milwaukee's north side received a boost Tuesday when a city panel recommended reducing the sale price of the development site.The four-story, 43-unit apartment building, 3600@Villard, is being proposed for a site in the 3600 block of West Villard Avenue. That site includes vacant lots, a former funeral home and a cellphone store.

Construction will begin in August on a large office building in Wauwatosa's Milwaukee County Research Park that has landed an anchor tenant.The four-story building, known as Muir Woods Research and Technology Center, will have three floors totaling around 85,000 square feet of office space as well as a level of heated parking spaces, said Thomas Irgens, vice president of the Irgens development firm.
