Interviewed for
Local Poverty Documentary

A documentary on poverty is currently being filmed that will feature local organizations and residents. The city of Oneonta has one of the highest levels of poverty in New York State.

The filmmakers, Joseph Stillman and Rev. Dana Horrell, say "The Faces of Poverty" documentary aims to recognize and dignify the hard work of people with low incomes.

CDO Workforce Disability Coordinator Kathy DeAngelo was recently interviewed by the filmmakers. Kathy was asked to speak to the filmmakers because the film will feature one of Kathy's customers. Kathy's customer told the filmmakers that Kathy was an advocate, and really helped her move forward with her life.

"We Must Do More to Promote Manufacturing
as a
Rewarding Career Path.
Here's How"

"It’s time for manufacturing to assert itself into the headlines as a viable, even a preferred occupation for young people, some of whom will love what they read and hear.

Others will be surprised and may now consider the prospect of a manufacturing career based simply on the fact their misconceptions have been challenged.

Learning to see manufacturing in a new light creates interest regarding the potential opportunities that manufacturing companies offer."

On-The-Job Training
The CDO Workforce New York One-Stop System has On-the-Job Training (OJT) Funds available.

The OJT funding provides companies with an incentive to hire and train individuals who lack the specific skills or experience for a job.

OJT is appropriate for occupations where classroom training is not suitable and for which specific job skills can be learned by a worker while engaged in useful work.

This program is for full-time (at least 32 hours per week) employment and cannot be used for seasonal, commission, or 1099 employment opportunities.

Business OJT users apply their own methods to teach workers the new skills necessary for successful employment within their company, while the trainee is performing productive tasks.

OJT contracts can be written up to $2,000 per trainee depending on amount of training provided.
