The Women's Centre Votes!

Alberta's provincial election will take place on April 16, 2019.
At the Women's Centre, we encourage everyone to make their voice heard by voting. Did you know in the 2015 provincial election, one riding in Calgary was decided by just six votes? Every vote counts!
The
Elections Alberta website contains information about how, and where to vote in the election.This includes information about
early voting, also known as advance polls, which will take place from April 9-13. For election day, each voter will be assigned a
specific voting station where they can go to cast their vote. But in the advance polls, any voter is able to vote in any poll in the city!
Unsure who you'll cast your vote for? The
CBC Vote Compass is a tool developed by political scientists that shows you how your views compare with those of Alberta's political parties.

Finally, make sure to check out our
Women's Centre Vote Walks! During the advance polls we'll be offering two opportunities for women to walk to the voting stations together. Celebrate democracy among friends by walking from the Women's Centre to the nearest advance polling station. Our Vote Walks will take place Tuesday April 9 at 11 am, and Wednesday April 10 at 2 pm.

Child Care is a Women's Issue

Right now in Alberta, regulated child care is hard to find and
unaffordable for most.
At the Women's Centre we work to address the lack of affordable child care, because while this is a problem impacting families of all compositions, a lack of access to affordable child care has a disproportionately high impact on women.

Applications Now Open - Women Lead YYC Cohort Four!

This Spring, we're inviting 20 women from all walks of life to come together for six weeks of leadership, activism, and community building in
Women Lead YYC. Women Lead YYC is a free, six-week program for women interested in working for positive change in their communities.
Women Lead YYC will meet six times, on Thursday evenings between May 2 and June 6. Sessions will cover topics like leadership, communications styles, advocacy, and addressing complex problems. Whether you have years of experience working to influence change, or are interested in connecting with a group of inspiring women, Women Lead YYC is for you.

April Workshops
We will explore women's issues and concepts such as sexism and patriarchy. Participants will also have the chance to gain a better understanding of the Women's Centre's policy and advocacy initiatives.

Jackie is a Cree, Sioux, Saulteaux woman who has been a part of our Women's Centre community for many years. Join Jackie for a night of community and making your own medicine pouches out of leather. She will teach you about the meaning of the medicine pouch and how it's used to carry personal treasures from nature, medicine, and spirituality.
