This Week at Chapel of Our Saviour
June 17, 2018
Fourth Sunday After Pentecost
Holy Eucharist 7:30 am, 8:30 am, & 10:45 am
Will I Be Struck by Lightening Here?

What is this place?
Is this really a church?
Do you really brew beer here?
Is that priest outfit a costume?
Are we allowed to play on your playground all of the time?
Am I going to be struck by lightening here because I'm a sinner?
Does Christianity have a theology of the body like eastern religions do?

These are just some of the questions that have been asked here at Chapel of Our Saviour over the last week.  On Saturday we had about two thousand people on our property for the Feast of Saint Arnold.  And on Monday and Wednesday we had about forty people here participating in outdoor workouts. Some may ask what a beer festival, or a workout have to do with the church.  Maybe beer itself doesn't have that much to do with Jesus.  But community sure does.  We Christians know that we find God ever more deeply when we are together.  This faith is not a solo one.  And inviting people here onto our property, building community over beer or exercise allows people to enter the holy.  Have you ever wandered our property and sensed something profoundly sacred?  Through our workout series and Feast of Saint Arnold, literally thousands more people have been brushed by the holy.  Many of those people have never been to church, or think they don't belong.  Simply being here in relationship makes space for questions to be asked like "women can be priests?" and "what does Christianity say about the sacredness of humanity?".  We invite you to find ways to bring your community here.  Find ways to create a safe place for hard questions.  And help to build God's kingdom in the process.

Community of Hope drivers needed
Community of Hope members who are part of a transportation ministry and regularly drive some of Chapel's parishioners to church on Sunday. There is a growing need for transportation, so we have a great need for more drivers, especially in the 80904, 80906, and 80919 zip code areas. You do not have to be part of Community of Hope but some training will be necessary. Please call Jan Lundy, Cathy Sterling or Debbie Leisenring if you feel a nudge to join this very important and rewarding ministry.

Feast of Saint Arnold
Thank you  to Brian and Becky Bennett for leading the Feast of Saint Arnold and the many volunteers who made FOSA a huge success. Proceeds from the Feast are shared with Westside CARES and Chapel activities.

The Lord's Dinner
A huge thank you to the 16 volunteers who served approximately 70 people at the Lord's Dinner on June 3rd.

B Street Food Pantry -
    Lunch in a Jar
Summer is a particularly challenging time for our families l iv ing on the edge. Because kids are out of school, they don't get the school lunch. In 2016, in El Paso County, there were  24,579 children under age 18 living in families with incomes below the poverty level. (Source: Kid's Count Data Center.) Last year, Westside CARES fo od pantries served approximately 7,000 of these children. The red wagon will be just inside the main door of the Parish House and donations may always be dropped off there. Our ministry with West Side Cares and B Street Pantry continue to be a blessing to them and to us . If each family brings a jar this month, we can help many families with lunch this summer.
  • Sundays - bring a jar (peanut butter, jelly, etc.)
The Thrift House
Volunteers are needed to work at the Thrift House of the Episcopal Church located at 1027 S. Tejon Street during the first two weeks of the month. Chapel volunteers work with other Episcopal churches in the area to operate a retail store selling gently used items. Profits are distributed to churches based upon volunteer hours worked. The profits are then dispersed to numerous county, state, and global non-profit agencies. To volunteer, please contact [email protected]    Also, donations and shoppers are greatly appreciated!
