A Prayer for our youth mission trip to Guatemala

Dear God,
We give thanks for the youth of our diocese and their mission trip to Guatemala with love. Please help them to be prepared and willing to help those that they serve with both open hearts and steady hands. Remind them to be open to new experiences and people. Help them to care for each other and to watch for opportunities to do Your work in the world. We ask that you wrap them in Your love and bless them with strength, courage, optimism, compassion and love as they walk this journey. Bring them home safe to us, and rich with stories of their adventures and service. In Jesus name we pray.
Amen.

Father's Day
Yum - bake and/or buy your favorite pie
This Sunday is  Father's Day;  so  why not treat dad to a slice, or even a whole pie! Buy a pie for your Father's Day celebration and/or for your concert in the park picnic that evening.   Bakers, it's time get busy with your favorite pie recipe. Youth on a mission
Guatemala bound
This Friday, June 22 16 youth and 3 chaperones will load into vans, drive to LAX, and then hop on a flight to Guatemala. These youth have spent the last six months working together to fund their trip. They have formed friendships, and are excited for the work ahead.

They will be building a house for the family of a youth in the child sponsorship program, Partners in Development. Partners in Development works on the a premise of "Whole Living", providing nutritional support, medical and dental care, and education for all the children in the program.

If you would like to follow along with the youth on their journey, Charlette is hoping to blog each evening. Her blog will be posted on the   Episcopal Diocese of San Diego Youth Facebook  page. You can also watch for photos and stories posted on the Partners in Development, Inc. Facebook page. Thank you, Christ Church for actively helping these incredible youth head off to Guatemala. We know they are grateful for your help and partnership!

Camp Create
Why not lend a hand
Don't miss the fun!

If you would like to help with Camp Create , there are many opportunities
  • Make a donation to the Camp Create Scholarship fund-see the button below
  • Assist with registration the first morning,
  • Help provide hospitality during lunch (service with a smile 11:30-1:00).
  • Lend a hand with art and/or music and drama projects.
  • If on-site participation is not your thing, what about making homemade cookies for the children?
Even if you can only help one day, come join in the fun. Contact  Charlette Preslar  to let us know how you'd like to help.

Camp Create is open to campers entering grade two through five. Youth entering grades six through eight may apply to be junior leaders, and youth in grades nine through twelve may apply to be group leaders. The camp will run from July 23-26, 2018. The program cost is $75 for the first child and $60 for the second child with a cap of $150 per family.

Please do not allow cost to be a factor in determining your ability to attend. Scholarships are available, and we are happy to provide them as needed. Camp Create includes children from the parishes of St. Luke's and St. Mark's; it provides a unique experience for many of these children, one that is financially out of reach for most of the families.

So many wonderful memories are made around campfires. It is a chance to roast marshmallows, sing songs, visit with friends and just relax. Thursday, June 21 at 7:00 p.m. Christ Church will have a campfire in the courtyard. Please bring your camp chair, friends and beverage of choice. Christ Church will provide the fixings for s'mores, the fire and of course the fun. Oh, and if you play a guitar, ukulele or harmonica, feel free to bring it.

Celebrate Our Armed Forces
Sunday, July 1, 2018
10:00 a.m. Sunday, July 1
In Coronado, when the 4th of July is on a Wednesday, we celebrate all week long! This year our annual celebratory Feast of Independence Day service will take place Sunday, July 1 at 10:00 a.m. Our esteemed Senior Warden, Paul Laedlein, CAPT USN, (Ret.) will give the sermon. All active and retired military are encouraged to wear their uniforms and everyone else....red, white, and blue, of course!  There will be patriotic music and trumpets to boot, so don't miss this special event that is sure to set the mood for the rest of the exciting week to come.

Parishioner Kathryn Bunch will have her "book fair" wares on display all morning. She always has wonderful titles for one and all.

Backpack Drive
July 1 kickoff
School is just getting out, but it's already time to start preparing for next year! Many children throughout the county start school in early August. As in past years, we will support two diocesan Back 2 School Bash sites - St. Mark's, City Heights, and St. John's, Fallbrook -- as well as provide packs for children living in poverty through North County Lifeline.

There are two ways to help! Pick up a supply list, purchase a backpack, fill it and bring it to church by August 1; or donate money so we can purchase backpacks and supplies in bulk on your behalf.

We can get filled backpacks for $15 (elementary) and $25 (middle/high school) by buying in bulk, so your cash donations go a long way! We have committed to providing 66 filled packs for St Mark's and 33 for St John's, and we'll purchase 150 for North County Lifeline, so our fundraising goal is $4000 for this campaign. Look for the table in the courtyard every Sunday in July! Don't miss the Blessing of the Backpacks in church on Sunday, August 5

Outreach/Service Ministry
St. Mark's Neighborhood Food Pantry
Increased need in summer
Bring pasta & pasta sauce this week.
Summer can be especially hard on low-income families who's children are often provided free breakfast and lunch, even after school snacks,  during the school year. The food pantry can provide some help when resources are scarce.

Basic non-perishable items are always needed:  canned vegetables, beans (canned and dried, but not green), canned fruit, canned protein, pasta sauce, canned tomatoes, peanut butter and jelly, cereals, oatmeal, rice, canned soups, pastas, chili, cooking oil, and single serving items for their homeless guests.

You may bring your donations to church on Sunday or drop them by the parish office during the week.
