There are several regulatory updates impacting restaurants effective July 1, 2018.

Minimum Wage Increases
City of Chicago minimum wage rates, effective July 1: $12.00 per hour, $6.25 per hour for tipped employees. Click here to download the updated Notice to Employers and Employees.

All businesses are required to post the Notice to Employers and Employees in each place of business beginning July 1 and include the Notice in each employee’s first paycheck following the July 1 implementation date.  

Cook County * minimum wage rates, effective July 1: $11.00 per hour, $5.10 for tipped employees. Click here to download the updated notice to employers and employees.

* More than 80 municipalities within Cook County have opted out of Cook County's minimum wage law. Please check with your local authorities to confirm whether or not this law applies to your business.
Paid Sick Leave - Carry Over
Since July 1, 2017, employers in the City of Chicago and Cook County * have been required to offer up to five days of paid sick leave to their employees each year.

Employees within the City of Chicago and Cook County are permitted to carry over half of their unused paid sick leave time (up to 20 hours) into each subsequent year.

Food Code Changes
Effective July 1, 2018, the City of Chicago has updated its Food Code to be in compliance with 2013 FDA Food Code regulations. The city's new Food Code includes new employer reporting requirements, food safety training guidelines, equipment compliance standards, and more.

Allergen Awareness Certification
Food Service Sanitation Managers working in Category I restaurants are now required to obtain ANSI-accredited allergen awareness training within 30 days of hire, and every three years thereafter. 

Get certified today before enforcement begins July 1, 2018.
